I know what you're thinking. Being an assassin has to be the greatest job ever. Sit on set all day (in a chair with your name on it), eat anything and everything from the craft service table (that's always stocked), hang out in your own trailer (with heat)... all while watching other people lift heavy equipment in the snow and rain. Easy living, right? Not always.
Sometimes assassins get too close to their assigned targets. Targets become friends. Often times, very good friends. You can't help it. And that's exactly what happened to me before we commenced production on episode 4. After six weeks together, the cast and I were attached at the hip. Inseparable. We'd have lunch, dinner, drinks, I was being introduced to their spouses, boyfriends, girlfriends, then there were more drinks, poker nights, karaoke parties, and more drinks, etc. Dare I say... we were becoming a "family." An assassin's nightmare.
Performing my assassin duties for Episode 4 was going to be excruciating. Sean Rogerson ("Booth") had become one of those aforementioned family members to me. Sean, a Vancouver local, took it upon himself to look out after those of us from Los Angeles. For all I know, he spends his weekends feeding the homeless and helping the elderly cross the streets of Vancouver. He's that guy. One of the nicest, sweetest people you'll ever get the chance to meet. And yes ladies, he is single.
Fortunately, Sean took the news of his demise pretty well. A little sad that his character, Booth, couldn't have lasted a little longer on the show, but he was eager, as they all are, to know how we planned on killing him off. How does the killer or killers get him? Well, they don't. The words, "You're going to accidentally shoot yourself," escaped my lips. He loved it. Not only did he love it, but Sean proceeded to deliver one of the most emotional deaths scenes of the series. No question. He nailed it. Our director, Guy Bee, worked hard with Sean to capture Booth's vulnerability and innocence.
All ended well for this episode, but I can tell you this... next week's victim is BIG. An assassin's work is never done.
