The Shaved Head, the Group Dance and Getting Back on Stage

People are curious why I shaved my head. I actually did a couple times before, but I always did it when the season was over to rehabilitate the follicles. There's been a lot of negativity this season surrounding the show and the cast with injuries and that kind of stuff. I did it so I could feel more liberated. It is one of those therapeutic things. I got a lot of very mixed reviews about it. My friends love it. Mom was like, "Oh, I want the hair back." I'll let it grow after this. Right now before the tour starts there is a lot to think about. The last thing I want to think about is how my head looks. So the perfect solution was to shave it off.

It was great to be back on the show on Wednesday, because I like dancing. I enjoyed this week, it was fun and easy. I am one of those very selfish dancers -- in a good way. I like the crowd and I like the reception and I like when people cheer. I guess people missed me because when we came out to pre-set up for the number, there was a huge standing ovation. That's always so great. It shows that what you do is respected and recognized.

Then of course I was coming out with the hair. The guy warming up the crowd was like, "Tony, Kim, Cheryl and Maks." And we come out and he's like, "Where's Maks?" He was on the mic and didn't know how to react to it, so it was a lot of fun.

Tony and I choreographed that number together. I think, also, the fact that we're not competing, not just on the show, but also professionally -- for us it is like fun week. We get to do stuff that we like without being judged. So the element of performance is something that I really enjoy.

As for the competition this week, I think it has started coming to that point where everyone becomes a little nervous. Susan was eliminated and now that she's gone, you have five potential finalists remaining. Some have done better than others, but none of them really stood out yet. It is going to be interesting to see next week and how it plays out.

I saw Cody on Wednesday and said, "You've really got the worst of it. You danced with Julianne and now you are dancing with Edyta. Men all over the country now are going to hate you." He laughed and said it was hard. I think this transition for him is a little difficult. He had some kind of a connection with Julianne and they had fun together and now he's got a completely different personality dancing with him, so he doesn't know how to deal with that. So he's not being himself because he's not comfortable yet. But he's young, he'll figure it out. I don't think the judges were too hard on him though. The idea is to choose the best dancer, not choose the person who went through the most on the show. That's why they really overlook all these injuries and all these factors, so they can come up with the best decision.

Team Paso's paso was entertaining. The cha cha was a little stale. They said that Susan was the weak link, but they had Cody and Lance who are two of the strongest competitors in the show. So the weakest link on a team like that shouldn't have mattered that much. I think next time they should bring someone in to choreograph for both teams. It would make it a little more fair and a little more interesting. Like they do with the group numbers.

I'll be back on the next results show, I'm choreographing a number. We'll be doing a group dance promoting the upcoming tour. . [You can get more info on the tour and tickets here.]
