There is no DVD justice. In a world where even According to Jim is available on disc, where oh where are DVD sets of all the sublime gone-too-soon shows that live on in fans' memories, years and years after their demise? Now And Again? Homefront? Frank's Place? We've got quite a DVD wish list. Santa, please see what you can do.
Bakersfield P.D. (Fox, 1993) -- Just thinking about this sly show puts a smile on the faces of fans who've practically worn out tapes recorded from the late, lamented Trio channel. Police detective Ron Eldard plays an eager but naive desert cop who gets his lifelong dream when he's teamed with savvy D.C. detective Giancarlo Esposito -- a black man! Well, only half-black (half-Italian), and hardly "authentic" enough for Eldard, whose cultural naiveté is audacious, hilarious and touching. But this single-camera gem raced well beyond race, playing rural/city sophistication conflicts, too, along with gender comedy in its three male detective teams (including Chris Mulkey and Tony Plana) who often express naked emotions like wounded romantic couples. TV comedy has yet to top this quirky cocktail.
China Beach (ABC, 1988) -- Dana Delany goes to Vietnam as an Army nurse in a reflective look back at the war, gender relations, and finding yourself while facing human horror day after day. The drama's people were unforgettable -- Delany, Marg Helgenberger, Robert Picardo, Megan Gallagher -- but so was the creative way the show laid out its tale, employing backwards scene order, real-life interview cut-ins, flash-forwards and other techniques to get under the skin and straight to the heart. Vintage songs provided a shrewd '60s soundtrack. But that, of course, makes music rights a pricy DVD stumbling block.
Cupid (ABC, 1998) -- Jeremy Piven wasn't some big discovery in Entourage. Those of us who saw him play a self-proclaimed angel of love in this whimsical romantic hour knew what he could do. It also provided a rare snug fit for offbeat actress Paula Marshall, as the semi-smitten shrink of Piven's semi-stable human/god. And it made a good entry point for writer Rob Thomas, later to give us the glorious Veronica Mars. But ABC wasn't sure if Cupid was comedy or drama, fantasy or fact (Piven's "real" nature never was explained), and marooned the show on Saturday night. Now they're remaking it with Bobby Cannavale in a midseason 2009 series already rumored to be in trouble. Bring back the original!
EZ Streets (CBS, 1996) -- Yeah, yeah, two episodes are out on a Brilliant But Cancelled DVD. Not enough! This uber-moody show from future Oscar winner Paul Haggis (Due South before, Crash after) only lasted eight episodes, after all -- all teeming with urban grit, scummy corruption, seamy sex and sick wit. Cop Ken Olin is hot to nail the Irish mob, while crime kingpin Joe Pantoliano keeps a freezer full of severed hands to provide misleading fingerprints. Haggis used song score gorgeously, too (Sarah McLachlan, Caroline Lavelle). Which means seeing this haunting saga again in its original form is exceedingly unlikely.
Frank's Place (CBS, 1987) -- Do you know what it means to miss New Orleans? Tim Reid's elegant evocation of NOLA should have hit DVD back when the city was underwater, all over the news, and in our hearts. This sharp single-camera half-hour was ahead of its time in not only format but also tone and attitude. Reid faced race head on, with a largely black cast, as well as the north/south divide, playing a Boston hotshot reluctantly returned home to his father's eatery. America just wasn't ready. Maybe now's the moment to revisit its languid charm.
Homefront (ABC, 1991) -- Period shows never work. TV axiom. But this post-World War II soap drama did OK in the ratings for two seasons and even better in the hearts of viewers who still yearn to revisit its warm study of characters and culture at a time of tumultuous change. Heck, television was invented on its watch! And what a cast -- Kyle Chandler, John Slattery, Kelly Rutherford, Mimi Kennedy, Ken Jenkins. Homefront evoked a time, place and tenor so effectively that its intrinsic unhipness made it the hippest thing around. Still is.
The John Larroquette Show (NBC, 1993) -- Here's a sitcom premise for you. Recovering alcoholic goes to work as night manager for a seedy St. Louis bus station. Laughs abound! Actually, they did in this sterling effort from the Night Court horndog, who got down, dirty and daffy at a time NBC was more attuned to Friends and Frasier's sleek style. The episodes' down-and-out situations were hard-hitting yet lighthearted, with pitch-perfect work from station assistant Liz Torres, chip-on-his-shoulder lunch counter man Daryl Mitchell, and gonzo drop-in cops Lenny Clarke and Elizabeth Berridge. Loosey-goosey and slightly demented, Larroquette was a gem that NBC didn't "get," and therefore tried to tidy up, thus diluting its 80-proof authenticity. Creator Don Reo went on to Action, while key writer Mitch Hurwitz would create Arrested Development. 'Nuff said.
Nothing Sacred (ABC, 1997) -- Taking faith seriously. What a concept. Too bad ABC let "religious" mouthpieces pick apart this genuine, probing and truly spiritual portrait of a troubled Pittsburgh parish. Kevin Anderson made for a hunky true-believer priest, wrestling with what his own faith meant, while trying to minister to the homeless, faithless and criminal, sometimes in his own family. Gritty scripts -- many written by the show's priest co-creator Bill Cain -- presciently tackled HIV, gay priests, and sexual exploitation by clergy, as well as abortion, mixed marriage and other hot-button topics. A skittish network never broadcast several of the best episodes, which remain unaired to this day. A sin, because those episodes (sometimes slipped to TV critic-fans of the show) are exactly the kind of intelligent, topical television the networks had better rediscover, lest they relinquish their primacy forever.
Now And Again (CBS, 1999) -- John Goodman got hit by a subway train and reborn into Eric Close's constructed hot bod, thanks to scientific genius Dennis Haysbert, in drama that played remarkably grounded for its pie-in-the-sky premise. All about (re)discovering who you are, the show was equally savvy with confused wife Margaret Colin and quirky daughter Heather Matarazzo. And filmed in New York, it looked superb, too. Creator Glenn Gordon Caron of Moonlighting and Medium made it sweet, smart and just the right amount out-there to hit us even harder in the heart.
Wonderland (ABC, 2000) -- And so this one resurfaces -- not on DVD, but on DirecTV, which announced it'll air all eight series episodes (including six never seen) starting Jan. 14. The link is series creator Peter Berg, now overseeing the satelliter's production of his Friday Night Lights. This equally intense and intimate saga focuses on doctors at a New York psychiatric hospital much like Bellevue, played by Ted Levine, Michelle Forbes, Martin Donovan and other potent performers. Berg's first creation, it reverberates just as viscerally as Berg's current saga of a quite different American community.
DVD is crying out for shows like these to be rediscovered. And we could go on and on. Comedies like Aliens in America, The Class and Miss/Guided. Dramas like Ed, Strange Luck and Jack and Bobby. Fantasy like Kindred, Brimstone and New Amsterdam. Even animation like Daria and The PJs.
If there's room on the shelves for Charles in Charge and Cashmere Mafia, there ought to be room for these.

I'll Fly Away! God, I loved that show...
I'd love to see the final 2 seasons of 'Taxi' finally make it to DVD. We have been waiting a long time!!
China Beach! Yes!
Kindred the Embraced came out on DVD a few years ago, if that's the Kindred series you're talking about.
Ed! Oh yes Ed must be released on DVD. Or the hulu gods need to grant our wishes.
How about Daria? I've been waiting for that to be released for years.
From what I've heard, the music rights issue is so thorny that we might never see a Daria DVD set. And if we did, it would likely be priced like QaF was at the beginning -- $100+.
Totally agree with Frank's Place. I'd also like to add Andy Richter Controls the Universe.
Definitely Ed! And the rest of Everwood (I think Season 1 is the only available).
Oh and The Wonder Years!!!
And Murphy Brown! They put out the first season a few years ago but the rest are nowhere to be found!
Let's not forget "Journeyman." And I was pleased to see "Daria" mentioned as well. I'm sure there are many others too. And yes, Kindred: The Embraced is available on DVD and has been for some time.
I've never entirely bought into the music rights excuse for many shows not being put out on DVD. Homicide used music all the time, but they were able to get all seven seasons on DVD.
Thank you for Bakerfield, PD! I feel like I'm the only person to remember this show. I still chuckle over remembered scenes. I mean, a police sketch artist who only drew famous people! Awesome.
I'd love to see EZ Streets again, and I would love my music to be still available for it, but it's not usually up to the artist; it's the record companies that charge ridiculously high prices for the music, making sure that the public doesn't get a chance to see the programme they want, and that the artist loses the gig. Not a good system. C'mon Record Companies - that world is gone now.
China Beach and Homefront are two of my all-time favorite shows. I really hope to see WB release China Beach on DVD.
The rest of Crossing Jordan and the rest of Everwood! Also Ed! And the rest of the Practice should be coming out!
This show has been off the air for about 10 years now but I *still* want to see New York Undercover on a DVD set.
I used to love Providence. There's some crappy compilation DVD or something, with 5 episodes or so, but it's stupid. I want full seasons!
There's used to be a tacky little show on Showtime called "Rude Awakening" with Sherilyn Fenn and Jonathan Penner. I wish they would put that on DVD!
Aliens in America and Andy Richter Controls the Universe-bring on the DVD's! These great shows barely got a chance but it would be wonderful to have the few episodes we did get on DVD.
I would love to see New Amsterdam on DVD! It was getting really good there at the end. The rest of Everwood would be great too!
I second the vote for I'll Fly Away. That was a terrific program. Sam Waterston, Regina Taylor, come on!
China Beach, absolutely. And I loved John Larroquette's show. Not everything on it was funny, but he made that show, he was so hilarious. And Mayim Bialik as his daughter? Together they were cynical and sarcastic and SO funny.
Make room for these shows on DVD!
The Days and Nights of Molly Dodd. I think music rights are an issue there, too.
And if we're bringing back under-appreciated John Larroquette vehicles, I actually preferred "Happy Family" (also with Christine Baranski ... and also unavailable on DVD).
The Practice, why only season 1 available? Also 30something isn't on dvd at all.
Sorry for the double post but I forgot to mention Grace Under Fire as well.
Could someone please tell Warner Brothers and 20th Century Fox to stop quiping over a few pennies and please finally put "Batman" out on DVD?
THANK YOU! I've been lamenting and complaining about this same thing for years. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who is baffled that "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" the series, is out on DVD but not my beloved "China Beach". You've pretty much listed the shows that I'm most anxious about (especially "Beach" and "Home Front") but I'll add a few others - "Eyes", "Haunted", "Karen Sisco"
Hmm...coincidentally most of the shows that I'm waiting for were on ABC - I wonder if that has anything to do with it?
Huge second on Days and Nights of Molly Dodd! I'm still holding on to old VHS tapes I made 20 years ago and would love to swap them out for DVDs.
I've always wanted MTV to release every episode of The State. You would think with the popularity of Reno 911, they'd ride the bandwagon. But I guess then they'd have to admit they made a huge mistake letting talent like that slip through their tiny little minds. I mean, this is the network that brings us The Hills, what a great show huh?
The first season of Saved By the Bell, known at the time as 'Good Morning Miss Bliss' still isn't available. It featured four SBTB regulars (Belding, Zack, Screech and Lisa) but the DVDs that are out start with the first season with Slater, Kelly and Jessie.
God I miss cupid. Why 'The Net', but not Cupid?
Doctor, Doctor with Matt Frewer.
Cupid was great. I loved the concept and delivery. Despite the "music rights" issue, I'm surprised China Beach didn't come out after CSI became a hit, because of Marg Helgenberger. Along the Sci-Fi thread, Seven Days & Time Trax. The Sci-Fi Channel has Seven Days on TV now, so maybe soon it's going to be on DVD.

Where oh where is Everwood seasons 2-4? I still miss you Ephram!
Dobie Gillis. The Adam West Batman. The Lindsay Wagner Bionic Woman. And here's another vote for Ed, too.
I would love to see the John Larroquette Show ondvd. I have may on tape, but not all.
New Amsterdam, Journeyman, It's Your Move and Parker Lewis Can't Lose
It seems like L.A. Law should be on DVD.
Seconded!
I'd love to see The State too and according to the guys, MTV was going to release it and then shelved it. They had to rerecord A LOT of the background music, so it wouldn't be the same anyway. I would like to have The Powers That Be released on DVD. Silly sitcom about politics but what a cast: John Forsythe, Holland Taylor, Peter MacNicol, David Hyde Pierce, and a very young Joseph Gordan Levitt.
what about once and again? sela ward and billy campbell and a young shane west and evan rachel wood. great show.
I would shell out the inflated price tag for "The Wonder Years," since they'll have to pay heartily for the music rights.
And yeah, "Daria," too.
I wish Jack and Bobby and Homefront would come out. Also, it's beyond belief that 30Something, Ed, China Beach, the Wonder Years and I'll Fly Away are still not out on video. Also, where is the rest of St. Elsewhere?
Everwood seasons 2-4. It's a travesty this show was ever canceled. Save Eli Stone!
I miss Frank's Place to this day - everytime I see decent tv, I still think "not as good as...." Homefront was just getting interesting, but go figure, that's when they canceled 30something - a pivotal plot point is the kiss of death, apparently. Is Brothers and Sisters really the answer? LIFE is about to suffer the same fate as the other good ones, hopefully Earl can hold on.
I second now and again!!! great show...but what about Ally McBeal?
I so totally agree about "Homefront." I loved that show! I'd add a vote for "Daria" -- how come "Beavis and Butt-head" is out on DVD, but not its far-superior spinoff?
Strange Luck with D.B. Sweeney.
Why oh Why can't we get that on DVD?
The American version of "Touching Evil" excelled the BBC original, which is unusual in remakes. I'd like to see it on DVD.
I'd also love to see Andre Braugher's "Thief".
I absolutely agree about "Homefront". It is one of my all time favorite shows. I want to add "Cybill" to the list. It was hilarious! I would buy both of these shows at almost any price.
I am dying to see the 80's tv shows "Rags To Riches" starring Tisha Campbell and "Just The Ten Of Us" starring scream queen Heather Langenkamp and Jamie Luner. I was also a huge fan of "The Class" and "Miss Guided".
I am dying to see the 80's tv shows Rags To Riches starring Tisha Campbell and Just The Ten Of Us starring scream queen Heather Langenkamp and Jamie Luner. I was also a huge fan of The Class and Miss Guided.
I would love to see more than 1 or 2 seasons of "Barney Miller" and "Night Court" along with many other examples of well cast, written and directed shows of a by-gone era.
Black Donnelly's, never should of been cancelled!
Black Donnelly's, never should of been cancelled!
I've been moaning about a 'Cupid' DVD release probably before I even got a DVD player. GOD it was just the greatest show. And 'Remember WENN.' Did anybody else watch that on AMC back in the day? I'd also like to see the rest of 'Everwood' and 'American Dreams' (another fallen period drama). Lord, there are just so many...
Man, you got it right about The Class. What the hell was CBS thinking?
I loved "Murphy Brown!"
I would love to see Sisters come out on DVD. I loved that show.
Must be another Jean Robinette because this was my first comment.
Get A Life with Chris Elliott
I'd love to see New Amsterdam brought out to DVD--heck I'd love to see the show completely revisited and set back to primetime! It was a show with a lot of potential that got cut short too soon mainly due to all the crap going on in Hollywood with the writer's strike. It'd be great to have it back!
my vote goes to wonder falls. andy richter, nichols, clone high.
So many to choose from - "Homefront" was amazing, "The Class" was great, as was "Ed". I also loved "The Paper Chase" - good on CBS, great when it moved to showtime. And for pee-your-pants-funny, nothing could beat "The Good Life", starring John Caponera and a little known Drew Carey. I would LOVE to see that gem on DVD.

... Oh, and does anyone remember "Grand" with Pamela Reed & Bonnie Hunt? Great show
YOU SAID IT!!!! China Beach and Homefront. Two really great shows...I'm also checking up on the net to see if they are getting released.
Completely agree about Frank's Place. I could smell the gumbo cooking every time that show came on. And it was really funny! Who's the Boss, Perfect Strangers and Full House were on that same year. And were popular. There's no figuring out a TV audience, I guess.
I want Blakes 7, dammit. One of the very best scifi series EVAR.
I would love to see Seasons 2-4 of Everwood and Season 2-3 of American Dreams. American Dreams probably has more music rights issues than anybody though. Still, JJ Pryor, I miss you!
I would like to add thirtysomething to the wish list. Also, so many of the shows listed so far seem like old friends. Great selections.
Actually, 'Wonderfalls' is available on DVD. Unless you were talking about the 'Wonderland' mentioned in the article...
Would love to see China Beach, Sisters, and does anyone know if Jericho has been put on dvd? I would love to have the whole series
I love my period shows: Homefront most of all, but I'm also wishing for Brooklyn Bridge, Remember Wenn, The Wonder Years and seasons 2-3 of American Dreams with its 'lost' ending (truly one show that wouldn't be the same if the music was swapped out). Also waiting for the rest of Everwood to come out on DVD.
Miss Guided at least you can get on iTunes.
Frank's Place still haunts me. It went beyond entertainment....Oh, and where are the WKRP DVD's, eh?
I miss Hugh Wilson
I loved the show Ed.
Amen to Homefront!! I loved that show so much and so did my parents (and it's rare we all agree on a show.) I searched for it endlessly online and finally found a woman who will make copies for a fee--not great quality as I believe she copies from original tapes, but I had to have it and they made a great Mother's Day gift last year!!

Campus Ladies and Arrested Development!!!
Arrested Development is out and can be found everywhere. I agree with Campus Ladies, Daria, Days and nights of Molly Dodd and China beach, so many good shows not on dvd and so much crap is :(
I miss the Wonder Years! I would pay good money for that series on DVD!
Somebody,Anybody PLEEESEE! put Frank's Place on DVD.
Also the Day and Nights of Molly Dodd.
The cancellation of Frank's Place should have been a first class felony. That was a GREAT show with flawless casting. I know many people still missing that one. BRING IT BACK!!!
I've been hoping for years that Frank's Place would be available on DVD. It's wonderful that other folks remember this great show, too.
Thank you for mentioning 'Jack & Bobby' in passing. I sometimes fear I am the only person on earth who knew of its brilliance.
Homefront, New Amsterdam, & Cupid are 3 shows I would love to see more of! And why did we not get the proper ending for Jack & Bobby? I would like to see a 2 hour movie of all 4 shows that gives them a finish that they deserve!!
Another great show we miss is Everwood
If I could just have once choice it would be for Everwood 2-4.
Still waiting for Max Headroom, myself...
I agree with Journeyman. That should not have been cancelled. It was a good show! I'd rather see (new)Knight Rider be cancelled.
Where, oh where, is The Wonder Years? Or the later season of Everwood?
I purchased full series episodes of 30Something & China Beach on line. They were pretty good copies obviously taped off the television. At about $150 total for both,I don't think it was a bad deal since it could be years before either is released.
Another vote for Frank's Place, but also Key West and Quark
I second Jeff's Max Headroom plea.
And all the posts for Murphy Brown (though the Motown music must be expensive, it is a must -- don't you dare try to change it to something else!).
I'm surprised they haven't finished putting out the Party of Five series. Capitalizing on Matthew Fox's success on Lost seems a no-brainer. Likewise, regarding China Beach and the marvelous Marg Helgenberger (now on CSI). Baffling.
Max Headroom
China Beach
I'll Fly Away
It is a crime those shows are not on DVD.
I'd like to see Chicago Hope on DVD... or at least the first couple of seasons.
I'd like to see Maverick on DVD.
Has this been added to the list?
My wish lists:
Wonder Years
Ally McBeal
Santa, please bring these 2 titles ASAP.

Wonder Years
Ally McBeal
Santa, please bring these 2 titles ASAP.
China Beach. YES. This is one of my favorite shows ever.
Also would love to have the final season of Once and Again. My dvd shelf is incomplete without it.
Grand - yes please! Great cast and funny from what I can remember. It's only been, like, 18 years...maybe a cable channel could put it on.
clone high is on dvd
One show I wish they'd finish putting out on DVD is Wiseguy...just a great show, but many of the best episodes have been left uncollected. From what I remember, it was one of the first shows to feature the "arc" style of storytelling for dramas. Anyone else remember this show?
Life With Bonnie.
Also missing on DVD: The Wonder Years. Kevin Arnold, Winnie Cooper, excellent use of music, clever story lines, honest pain and feel-good moments in the same episode.
Jack and Bobby!
I completely second Sisters with Swoosie Kurtz, Sela Ward, Ashley Judd, Mark Frankel, and pre-ER, post-Facts of Life George Clooney. Me and my mom watched that show religiously every Saturday night for YEARS and I was going to pick it up for her for her birthday this year, only to discover it wasn't out. I couldn't believe it!
Ditto on Designing Women, China Beach, and the last season of Once & Again. Unfathomable that these are not out yet!
OMG YES! Doctor Doctor was awesome! It's absence from DVD plus the completely inexplicable Max Headroom invisibility (as cited elsewhere) makes me wonder if Matt Frewer hasn't pissed somebody off somewhere along the line.
YES. That show aired here in Australia at 1am on Tuesdays and I still never missed an episode.
Also Ned and Stacey please!!
That's a nice list, particularly Cupid. Daria is long overdue. On the lighter side of animation, I'm stunned that Disney hasn't tried to cash in on their only quality animated series of the last decade (and a half), Kim Possible. Ed deserves some justice (particularly with TC dropping in quality guest appearances everywhere). If you're looking to name gems that should be on DVD and aren't, look no further than David Greenwalt's sublime Jake 2.0. A "serious" Six Million Dollar Man update with effects, writing, acting and nice romantic crackle between the hero, and his doctor. Jake and Diane were played excellently by Chris Gorham (since moved on to Ugly Betty) and Keegan Connor Tracy (who can't seem to catch on anywhere, even when she resorts to playing against type like she did in the film "Chaos" last year). It was one of only two quality shows born on UPN (along with Veronica Mars), but it got dropped before the best episodes shot in the original order were even aired.
I forgot about Jack and Bobby which does deserve a place here. However, Brimstone is the worst, most inexplicable slight.
If they ever release Homefront and China Beach on DVD my gift giving list would be a lot less of a challenge, considering that everyone I know would love to have those series.
Thank you for this piece, Diane Werts. You reminded me of a great many series I loved, and would love to see again! I'd happily shell out big bucks to do so too, so I wish that they simply do it with the higher price tags required to cover the music rights.
Amen to New Amsterdam. A great show, I would have loved to see how it developed. Also, Days and Nights of Molly Dodd and CHINA BEACH!!!!
How about the brilliant 1996 Relativity?
There are so many listed here that I didn't realize WEREN'T on DVD: Wonder Years would be tops on my list for shows that should be on DVD.
China Beach is another I'd like to see as well, along with Ned and Stacy and Grand. More Murphy Brown, too!
Someone above mentioned Just the Ten of Us and Rags to Riches. I'd love those shows just for nostalgic purposes. I loved them as a kid.
For pure cheesy fun, I'd love to see Models Inc and Spyder Games (the MTV "telenovela" they aired in 2001) show up on DVD. Those two shows were seriously campy fun!

Brimstone shoutout for the win! I managed to find bootleg DVDs but that show absolutely deserves an official version. And maybe a movie. And... to not have been cancelled. boo, hiss.
The Class is another I'd absolutely buy, and miss like crazy. But somehow, Grosse Pointe made it to DVD, so at least sometimes the short-run shows get recognized.
I'm so happy to see others mention Remember WENN. No one else seems to know that show, but my dad and I watched it every week. I didn't like the first few seasons, but really got into the last two. I'd love to know if there was ever any kind of resolution to the storyline.
And Daria, of course. I don't even care anymore about the music, I just want Daria!
I want Daria. I've been keeping an eye out for that since the re-runs were playing on The N.
Anyone remember Strange World?
Off Centre ftw
Definitely agree on Strange Luck and Brimstone. Don't give up hope. After all I was pleasantly surprised when The Sentinel, Season 1 came out (although TS has a somewhat vocal fan base).
Doctor, Doctor was the funniest show ever. It should go to the top of the list.
China Beach - I taped the entire series.

life with bonnie for sure..loved that show
The Marshall was a show i loved.Jeff Fahey was great on that show.
Head of the Class
Herman's Head
Parker Lewis Can't Lose
And many others...
Clone High IS on DVD!!! Lovely, isn't it?
Love Monkey needs to come out on DVD!
I'm still waiting on Kung Fu: The Legend Continues. They've started putting out the original Kung Fu, but haven't heard anything yet on KF:TLC.
Also, would love it if they put out seasons 3 & 4 of Blake's 7. Seasons 1 & 2 are available, but not 3 & 4.
Ditto everything Ron said. I was just trying to tell a friend of mine about Herman's Head the other day! Oh and I still don't get how The Black Donnelys made it to DVD and The Class still hasn't. That show was AWESOME.
"Two Guys a Girl and a Pizza Place" aka "Two Guys and a Girl" should be on DVD by now I love that show and Ryan Reynolds is definitely popular with the ladies so why isn't this sho on DVD.

High Chaparell
Yes! A&E ran it in the morning a few years ago and I tivoed every episode to watch after work.
I agree with you Kes, I've submitted my request to the BBC America site for Blake's 7 a few times, and under a couple of different e-mails. I'd also like to see the Max Headroom television show, the sci fi drama, not the chat show. Finally, I also agree about the Powers that Be, that show was hysterical!
I agree with music not being used as an excuse but it can change the dynamic of a scene. In 90210 when Dylan and Brenda break up and Chris Isaac's Wicked Game played in the back, it was totally different on the dvd. Also missing was REM's Losing My Religion that she played over and over. Not good.
My vote's in for Ally McBeal too. Bt far one of the best shows to air.
Flying Blind & Eek the cat
I would love to see "The George Wendt Show" and the Corbin Bersen show "A Whole New Ballgame". Also "The Duck Factory" with Jim Carrey.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who would rather have original Cupid then remake. Jeremy Piven was that show and no remake will ever compare. Also glad to see Now & Again and Nothing Sacred on this list, however Moonlight seems to have been left off.

How 'bout American Dreams?
Yes! Tea Leoni rocked my world in Flying Blind (also with a great David Byrne theme song.)
Parker Lewis Can't Lose and Head Of The Class
I would love to see Fox's "Reunion" put on dvd as well it was a good series about a murder that happened at a highschool reunion that dealt with a secret during highschool. It had a brilliant plot and cast and I never found out the ending! I will also like to see creator Joss Whedon tie up his series "Tru Calling" either with a reinvented Season 2 (since fox canceled it) or a movie like he did with "Firefly" (Serenity) that was also another brilliant show done by Whedon that had a good fan base and ended too soon!
Jack and bobby should so definitely have been out on DVD already that show was pure amazingness!!
I loved that show!!
Also before I forget Lifetime also has a habit of developing really good series and then dropping them in the middle of really good story plots!
I would like to see on DVD the following:
1-800-Missing (Great show w/ Vica Fox)
How Clean is your House? (American version)
Wildcard
Blood Ties (Had potential)
Angela's Eyes
It seems everytime Lifetime gets a good drama series with good potential they carry it for two seasons and cancel it, which is why I do not get into their series anymore!

I agree with Max Headroom, and also I would like to see the rest of the seasons of The Nanny on DVD (why is it taking soooooooo long?). Parker Lewis can't lose and Malcolm in the middle would be nice additions, too.
And how about these shows:
Hardball (John Ashton and Richard Tyson)
Street Justice (Carl Weathers)
Still Standing (Mark Addy and Jami Gertz)
Loved "The John Larroquette Show"! Very nice and gritty, especially for the sitcom format. And "Ed" was my favorite show ever. And I agree about "The Days and Nights of Molly Dodd". And it's also time for "thirtysomething"!
I keep reading about the release of really ancient shows like "I Love Lucy" or "Petticoat Junction". Are we gonna have to wait 40 or 50 years to see our shows out on DVD?
Oh "Ed"! If it weren't for you who would be the "Mac Guy"? Totally miss it!
Here, here for
I'll Fly Away
Now and Again
Doctor, Doctor!!!!
I agree with the TWoP list and would add "Soap" (from the 70s) to the list as well. I was a kid at the time and LOVED that show. It had one of the all time best ensemble casts ever on TV. I can't find it on DVD anywhere, which is a shame.
i agree and i would like to see AfterMash as well
i agree and i would like to see AfterMash as well
Definitely I'll Fly Away, Max Headroom, and Thief! Please!
More than just the first season of Hill Street Blues
Yes!! Jake 2.0!! What a crock that we never got to see the Jake/Diane relationship play out.
"Session", Billy Crystal's drama for HBO. A little masterpiece !
For all those looking for china beach on dvd..it can be found here..http://www.tvdvdmania.com/
ed is on there as well
I think most of the episodes are on Hulu.
My husband really liked the show Pensacola, Wings of Gold. James Brolin, I would love to be able to get him dvds of the show
Definitely Max Headroom and Parker Lewis Can't Lose - I'd also like to see the Starman series with Robert Hayes and C.B. Barnes.
It's not a question of a 'few pennies' numskull; the daughter of William Dozier has to be paid for her share of the rights first: until that happens, no Batman show.
To be brutally frank, Batman is a crappy show that should have all its copies buried 3000 feet below see level, in an impenetrable vault that no one can get access to. The show is a travesty of the character, taking advantage of the period in the life of the character/franchise in which it couldn't be too dark, and then bring it to TV as a stupid, campy romp that destroyed the character and made him look like a moron. AFAIK, as long as Ms. Dozier wants her money and Fox/Warner's can't or won't pay, that's good enough for me, and for you and every manjack from here to Antarctica.
Want to see the '60's style Batman? Watch Batman: The Brave & The Bold every Saturday morning on the CW and Cartoon Network, and read the comic book based on it from DC Kids; the should be enough corny Batman for you to digest. And furthermore, try and realize that Batman is a dark character, NOT a light one-your mind will thank you for it.
As to the original topic: there isn't much that I wish was on DVD, but here goes-
1. Max Headroom
2. Daria
3. Reboot
4. East Side?West Side-I'm curious about that show
5. V.R.5
6. The New People-Lost done a lot better, and still timely today.
Here's one more-okay, maybe two more-no, wait, three:
7. Spy Groove
8. Kim Possible
9. The Beachcombers
I'd like to see the 1983-84 NBC TV series "The Yellow Rose" with Sam Elliott as Chance McKenzie, and Cybil Shepherd as Colleen Champion finally come to DVD. NBC cancelled the show far too soon.
I'd like to see Haunted (2002) with Matthew Fox and The Others (2000) with Julianne Nicholson released on DVD.
Actually, I saw Soap out on DVD at Best Buy the other day, and almost bought it. I think it is the whole series on DVD in a small package. Also, I totally wish they would bring out Brooklyn Bridge, a wonderful little gem of a show, and Homefront - I have actually signed online petitions for that one's release.
I would like to know if TPTB will ever release "The Equalizer" on DVD? I wonder if it's released in Europe? I just loved that show!
Mann & Machine is the one I'd like to see. Perhaps Max Headroom is already out? Kindred I bought on the spot, many more recent shows including the incandescent Firefly are on Hulu.
Caroline - is this THE Caroline Lavelle?
If so, wow. Way back in the early days of the internet, it was quite a chore to find out who recorded that haunting music in EZ Streets, but ever since I have been a fan.
Double Dare (nickelodeon), Fun House (Lorimar), Press Your Luck, RoundHouse (Nickelodeon), Weinerville (Nickelodeon), Bullwinkle show, under the umbrella tree, Mr. Wizard (nick), global guts, 80's care bears [on disney] (american greetings), and welcome back kotter need to be released on DVD!
The Nine
Miss Match
Emilys Reasons Why not
Women's Murder Club
Young Americans
Zoe, Duncan, Jack and Jane
Miss Guided
That 80's Show
The Class
I would like to replace my copy's i taped off tv for Official ones
Shannon's Deal would be my pick. Frank's Place was great as stated in the piece. Duckman is already out. South Central was a good one too.
There was a Sci-fi comedy by Buck Henry in 1977 (before most of us had VCR's) with Tim Thomerson that I've been looking for ever since that was brilliant and funny called "Quark"
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077066/
I want to buy the full Allie McBeal! It is only available in Europe and Japan!
"Standoff" from Fox, damnit - Ron Livingston's GOOD at selling DVDs! Would also add to "Daria" and "Murphy Brown" demands. As for "Batman", my mind doesn't want to be helped, it wants BIFF! and POW!
I would buy Now and Again in a second. Ditto Lou Grant and also both of Andy Richter's sitcoms. And I would love The Associates with a pre-SCTV Martin Short.
China Beach, Home Front, Relativity, Jake 2.0, Now and Again, the list goes on and on.
I clicked on this article just on a whim to see if Nothing Sacred was mentioned. YES! A big thumbs up to getting that series out on DVD very soon. I have my precious VHS tape of 8 episodes culled from somewhere in the middle of the series (after I discovered it and before ABC started moving it around in their schedule before axing it). An excellent series that deserves a primo DVD treatment.
I would love to see Drive on DVD because I'm a huge Nathan Fillion fan and I still don't know the reason why Fox cancel this beloved show after only four episodes. But we will never know.
I'd like to see an official dvd release of the great, lost 90s MTV sitcom, Austin Stories. And then a "15 years later" followup series to see what the characters are up to now. great show.
THIRTYSOMETHING!!!
The Completely Mental Misadventures of Ed Grimley. Martin Short and various other people from SCTV. The best Saturday morning cartoon ever! Even if it only lasted one season.
I would love to get Andy Richter Controls the Universe! I still laugh out loud when I remember some of the situations (new Andy; Black Irish; Byron's religion; etc.)
Also...I love Bakersfield PD!!
Thank God Wonder Falls came out on DVD!
Brilliant But Cancelled needs to get its own network so it can show these shows over and over.
P.S.
I'd also love to get hold of Maximum Bob (ABC). Beau Bridges was funny, but the weird citizens of his town were the best. It was only on a season, but deserves DVD issue!
American Gothic ??
Grand! I loved that show so much! And they left us with that damn cliffhanger too.
I'd like to see Space 1999 with Martin Landau and then wife Barbara Bain. Also Safe Harbor with Gregory Harrison and Rue McClanahan. Series was short lived. Took place at Magic Beach in Florida 1999. Police widower with 3 sons and foster daughter.
My votes are for Andy Barker, P.I. and DAG.
The 1 show I really wish would be released on DVD is Get A Life starring Chris Elliot. That was an insanely funny show.
I lived in St Louis and the John Larroquette show wasn't nearly as outrageous as it seemed if you had ever BEEN to the St. Louis bus station back in the day...
Nothing Sacred is one of my top late-lamented series. A superbly done series wrestling with religious issues - which no one's made much of a stab at since "Joan of Arcadia", and we know what happened to that. If I can't have a revival, I'd settle for a DVD.
Does anyone know where I can find a DVD of the TV series "Dear John" with Judd Hirsch?
What about Designing Women I have been waiting for that show to come out on DVD
I totally want some glossy, highly camp dramas released on DVD. Models Inc (we've got 90210 and Melrose, why not this?), Central Park West, Savannah and Titans. Sure, all of these were short series, but that just means it'd be easier to fit the entire series into one boxset each. :)
"Call to Glory" (1984) with Craig T. Nelson, Cindy Pickett and Elisabeth Shue. It only lasted 1 year, but it was a great show with a great cast.
Hey MGK...if you ahve Comcast and digital cable on TVOne NY Undercover comes on on a regular basis..this was an awsome show(until they demanded "friends" money and got theirselves written off....'killed') but great reference
(showing my age...)
"Harry O", from mid '70s. David Jannsen, Anthony Zerbe. In the nieghborhood of "Rockford Files".
I'm glad I saw a few people on here mention Sisters. I loved that show- and it was a real launching pad for George Clooney and Sela Ward's careers. I wish I could find the complete series on DVD, but no such luck yet...
I agree with all the shows you mention. I haven't looked at all 200+ comments so I don't know if Boomtown was mentioned, but I'd buy the DVD of that.
I agree with all the shows you mention. I haven't looked at all 200+ comments so I don't know if Boomtown was mentioned, but I'd buy the DVD of that.
I loved Any Day Now and Strong Medicine. Strong Medicine only has the firs season, but it was an awesome show. I also liked MD's on ABC. that show had a lot of potential, the network just didnt give it a chance.
Daria is available through netflix..
I want "Three Sisters" and the sitcom "Emeril" to become available. Canceled shows now appear iTunes, but what about older shows that were canceled!
The main two I'd like to see on DVD are Sisters and Adam West's Batman.
Oh, and Sesame Street. Not just the Old School DVDs with an episode or two from each season - a real comprehensive 80s set so that when I have kids they never have to know that Elmo's World even exists.
I'd love to see "Third Watch" on DVD. I really liked that show.
The ones on my wish list: Daria, LA Law, Third Watch Seasons 2-6, Judging Amy, Relativity, MTV Unplugged concerts, Saved (the Tom Everett Scott paramedic show) All with original music of course.
Also: High Incident, Moonlighting, The State, Liquid Television, Parker Lewis Can't Lose
Love to see Hot Properties get on DVD! It was a very good comedy that got moved around every two weeks and then got sidetracked for about a month and then canceled.
It was starting to increase in rating just when it got canceled.
how about the TV SHOW "NIKKI" also UNHAPPLIL EVER AFTER
I've been waiting for Once and Again Season 3 (by far the best season in many ways and the only one not available on DVD for years). I'm also still waiting for the later seasons of Party of 5, but that's mostly just my own nostalgia.
I'd buy The Class and Ed.
My top 5.
5. Homefront
4. Homefront
3. Homefront
2. Homefront
1. Homefront
Wonder Years, Get a Life, 2 guys and pizza place, and newer one reunion and traveler.
I second the vote to see Days and Nights of Molly Dodd on DVD. I also think it should be on the list of comedies and dramas cancelled too soon.
I miss Dear John with Judd Hirsch...anyone know where I can find that series on DVD?
Ally McBeal!!!
The Pretender and Space Above and Beyond for Australian (region 4) dvd release!!!
mcmillan and wife
I would definitely pay for a DVD of my all-time favorite Flying Blind (w/ Tea Leoni, Corey Parker and Thomas Haden Church). Only made it one season!
Every few months I keep looking to see if the 1997 TV show Nothing Sacred has been released. I still vividly remember this show. Still hoping
There is a hole in my heart where Homefront used to be.
I have a question (great blog by the way) what did you guys think about the halftime show for the Super Bowl? did you guys think "The Who" played a good show? I don't know about you guys but I prefer Janet and Justin, lol. I even think Bruce Springsteen was better.
Don't know if anyone remembers this show but
In Justice it was on ABC for midseason. It was a good show I would love to see on DVD. Also Miss Match on NBC
Michael Jackson didnt want to be just a superstar. Like the Beatles, he wanted to be the biggest, the king
Having done a search for psychic mediums on Yahoo I came across your blog, and am I thankful I did. I am impressed with the quality of info I have found here, and I am certain that this will be not just helpful to me but to others also. I have added you to my list of preferred blogs and will be back on a regular basic
I agree that Malcolm in the Middle the Complete Series needs to be issued immediately. Also, Maybe It's Me, which I still can't believe got cancelled.
HOMEFRONT please!
And, btw, Daria is available. I bought it last month.
Any info on if Key West may be released on dvd? It was a great show.

I'll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)
If I go downstairs and don't see any super noodles in the cupboard I'm not gonna be happy
If you're still on the fence: grab your favorite earphones, head down to a Best Buy and ask to plug them into a Zune then an iPod and see which one sounds better to you, and which interface makes you smile more. Then you'll know which is right for you.
This site was... how do I say it? Relevant!! Finally I have found something which helped me. Cheers!
This website is de facto interesting i am longing for is there any other examples? but anyway thank you much as a result of I found that i used to be craving for.
This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like 'Mixview' that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you're listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of "neighbors" will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune "Social" is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.
The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod's. It works well, but isn't as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that's not an issue, but if you're planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod's larger screen and better browser may be important.
Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It's very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.
Right here is the perfect weblog for anybody who wants to know about this particular matter. You fully understand a great deal its just about difficult to state on hand (not too I truly would wish Funny !). You surely get a new angle over a issue thats already been discussing for ages. Terrific things, just simply excellent!
