There was a Land of the Lost marathon running this weekend on Sci Fi, and since I remembered watching this show as a kid and really liking it, I figured I'd watch some more before the new movie came out. This was a massive mistake. While I started singing along when I heard the familiar theme music, I was sort of horrified to see how unconvincing the credits sequence was. In my young mind this was much more impressive than it is in retrospect. I realize that Syd and Marty Krofft fans adore this sort of thing, and while the Sleestak puppets still have their appeal, the rest of the special effects do not hold up well. I was literally laughing out loud watching Will and Holly run scared from a dinosaur, because it was just so goofy. And it isn't just the effects -- the acting and stories (at least the ones I could bare to watch) were pretty ridiculous. Still, at the time I remember being entertained and that this show helped form me into the geeky fantasy fan I am today (mostly because I thought Holly being friends with a dinosaur was cool... still is), so that's something. But I don't think I'll be buying the box set any time soon.
If you want to destroy your fond childhood memories, you can watch the episode below, or more of the first season here.

I mostly agree with your summation but the show does have its charms and actually some of the episodes in the first two seasons were well written believe it or not.
I agree with you 100% a lot of people do. I couldn't believe how cheezy it was. I remember as a kid coming home from school and sitting around the tv room with friends busting at the seams for that show to start. I remember thinking how real the dinosaurs looked. This definitly was a whole nother era, before Jurassic Park. Any way I heard the movie was really funny.
My brother and I thought it was cheesy and the effects lame even then. But we still loved the show. Although, I was no longer a fan once they "adopted" that dinosaur and treated it like a collie - or when that ape-dude started living with them. What little credibility the FX could handle was completely lost, at that point, as far as I was concerned.
"Land of the Lost...should have stayed LOST Will Farrell cannot act and has not been involved in a decent movie yet..and I doubt this one is headed for the mega millions take either

I loved Land of Lost. It is interesting it got cancelled after three seasons because the ratings were still high. I had a major crush on Holly as a young boy. She was sort of the ultimate feminist, lol.
