After having our worlds rocked by the presence of both Alex Mack (Larisa Oleynik, as Ken Cosgrove's fiancée) and Clarissa Explains It All's Marshall Darling (Joe O'Connor, as Trudy's father) in the same Mad Men episode this past Sunday, it got us thinking about all of the former Nickelodeon, UPN and WB stars of the '90s and early 2000s that the show has redeemed over the years. There's Colin Hanks (of Roswell); Nora Zehetner and Sarah Drew (of Everwood); Matt Long (of Jack & Bobby); Danny Strong (of Buffy); and, of course, Vincent Kartheiser (of Angel), among others. Clearly, the show has an affinity for casting this niche of actors in weighty roles, so who should be next? These are our suggestions:
Danny Cooksey (Formerly Budnick, Salute Your Shorts)
Meet your new client, SCDP: Roy Mullett, millionaire redneck founder of the hairstyle of the future and owner of a national chain of low-priced salons in need of an ad campaign.
Leslie Grossman (Formerly Mary Cherry, Popular)
When Trudy falls out of sorts due to a severe bout with postpartum depression, Pete Campbell could hire the finest, most definitely not at all callow, greedy, retarded person money can buy to nanny his newborn daughter.
Jason Dohring (Formerly Logan Echolls, Veronica Mars)
Tired of Pete's refusal to leave SCDP, Ted Chaough could hire Dohring as his new protégé. The two would arrogantly taunt SCDP for losing an embarrassing number of accounts in their roster in record time... until Don and Pete steal their number one account and make them cry like a couple of secretaries in the bathroom at quittin' time.
Lori Beth Denberg (Formerly everything awesome about All That)
Just entertain for a moment the possibility that Joan decided not to abort Roger's baby (enough people think that could be the case) and imagine the potential of a toned-down, classed-up version of The Loud Librarian temping in Joan's place during her maternity leave. Put a crossword puzzle in her hands and it might be enough to fill Miss Blankenship's ridiculous void.
Jason Behr (Formerly Max Evans, Roswell)
As the ketchup czar for SCDP's newly acquired Heinz account, Behr would have to sit in meetings as his company's representative while Don Draper berates him about how stupid "The 57" is. After hours, Peggy would take it upon herself to explain to him that Don Draper calling you stupid is something of a rite of passage on this show, and Behr quickly becomes Peggy's new boytoy, much to Don's consternation.
David Lascher (Formerly Ted, Hey Dude; Josh, Clueless; Vinnie Bonitardi, Blossom; Josh, Sabrina, The Teenage Witch)
A Fed after Don Draper? A hand model for Samsonite? New towel boy at Don's swim club? I don't care, just please, Matt Weiner, save this guy. After examining his IMDB page for this article, he probably needs it most of all. What a lengthy, thankless resume full of almost nothing but embarrassing crap. No one deserves to have both Touched By an Angel and Two of a Kind to their name. No one.
