Despite my frustrations over egregious Sons of Anarchy snubs and superfluous Mariska Hargitay and Tony Shalhoub noms, today's Emmy nominations announcements are largely a happy occasion for me, personally, for one reason and one reason alone: Mike O'Malley, one of the most underrated actors on television, has been nominated for his tremendous work on Glee. In that weird guest actor category instead of the more prestigious supporting actor one, sure, but I'll still take it -- I just adore the guy. I always thought he was a far better actor than he ever got credit for and frequently gushed over his work in My Own Worst Enemy -- which got me mocked quite a bit at the time -- so now I'm feeling pretty vindicated. So, in the spirit of the day, let's review the credits that got him to Glee (and maybe an Emmy!), shall we?

When Samantha Who? returns to ABC with fresh episodes Monday (9:30PM ET, after Dancing With the Stars), no question mark should be necessary. Christina Applegate scored a bullseye in this zippy single-camera comedy of a ruthless executive whose amnesiac loss of memory allows her to reinvent herself, to goofily evolve from self-centered reprobate to, well, less self-centered nice-person wannabe. Applegate, who made her TV name as a teen notching bedposts on Married With Children, suddenly wowed us by blossoming into a Lucille Ball-level delight of both sparkling character and physical comedy, with intelligent wit in the mix, too.

Happy Memorial Day Weekend, everybody! Summer is semi-officially here, and we thought we'd celebrate the start of beach season by looking at one of our favorite shows, Howard Stern's Baywatch parody Son of the Beach. Following a team of lifeguards as they make sexual puns and parody famous movies and TV shows, the show lived up to the high on-air standards set by Stern on his radio show. Plus, it starred TV's Tim Stack as pasty David Hasselhoff substitute Notch Johnson -- Stack pretty much wore his Notch outfit in all of his appearances playing himself on My Name is Earl. A moment of silence for Earl, and a moment of pure, unadulterated Stack in the pilot episode of SOB, embedded below.
