All in the Family Creator Speaks Out

by TWoP Staff May 5, 2008 5:46 PM
Will legendary TV creator Norman Lear make a comeback on NBC? At an April 28 talk at New York's 92nd Street Y, Lear admitted that he has been talking with NBC Entertainment head Ben Silverman about returning to primetime with the Peacock network. No word yet on a timeline for his return, but possible ideas for the show include a fictional hedge fund. He seems to be impressed with the current state of television, repeatedly saying that he LOVES South Park and thinks it's the smartest show on television: "They have a message and they have something to say and they say it." He is also a huge fan of Family Guy, 30 Rock and Curb Your Enthusiasm and never goes to sleep during the week without watching the Daily Show with Jon Stewart. He thinks it's a great show and also informs young people on politics.

Samantha Who?: Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

by Diane Werts April 4, 2008 12:04 PM
Samantha Who?: Girls Just Wanna Have Fun When Samantha Who? returns to ABC with fresh episodes Monday (9:30PM ET, after Dancing With the Stars), no question mark should be necessary. Christina Applegate scored a bullseye in this zippy single-camera comedy of a ruthless executive whose amnesiac loss of memory allows her to reinvent herself, to goofily evolve from self-centered reprobate to, well, less self-centered nice-person wannabe. Applegate, who made her TV name as a teen notching bedposts on Married With Children, suddenly wowed us by blossoming into a Lucille Ball-level delight of both sparkling character and physical comedy, with intelligent wit in the mix, too.

The Family Ties/Spin City Reunion

by TWoP Staff February 7, 2008 1:22 PM
TV Lover was at legendary TV show creator Gary David Goldberg's seminar at the Paley Center tonight. Goldberg was reunited with his Family Ties cast members Michael J. Fox, Meredith Baxter and Michael Gross. Also on the panel were Fox's Spin City co-stars Richard Kind and Michael Boatman. And Marion Ross was there representing Brooklyn Bridge, Goldberg's "brilliant but canceleld" sitcom.

by TWoP Staff November 5, 2007 1:27 PM

1) "The Simpsons," Lisa Simpson-- Lisa's convictions are strongly leftist. She is a vegetarian and has expressed a desire to become a vegan. Lisa also joined the animal rights group PETA.

2) "Friends," Phoebe Buffay -- Portrayed by Lisa Kudrow, Phoebe is somewhat of a champion of animal rights and the environment. She is a vegetarian and doesn't eat "food with a face. She is against the wearing of fur coats, and cries when flowers die.

3) "Green Acres," Oliver Wendell Douglas -- Oliver was a New York City attorney who had a dream of moving to the Midwest and operating a farm rather than practicing law. He didn't adjust well to farm life, not for lacking of trying though. The show concentrated on farming, growing your own crops, and caring for animals.

4) "All in the Family," Gloria and Michael Stivic -- Portrayed by Sally Struthers and Rob Reiner, they shared liberal political beliefs. An example of this is when Michael got arrested for a nude protest at a nuclear power plant.

5) "Ellen DeGeneres Show," Ellen -- Ellen is a big animal activist and lover of the environment. On her show she often refers to the hybrid car she drives and tries to get as many pets adopted as possible.
