Kate Walsh, Elyse Keaton, Innerspace, and a new Friday Night Lights, among today's picks.
Come On Elyse: In back-to-back Spin City episodes, Meredith Baxter shows up as Mike's mom. If you don't know that's funny, you are too young to remember Spin City anyway, and I can't help you. (FX, 9 AM/9:30 AM)
"So, Julianna Margulies, How Are Things On Doogie Howser?": If the lack of current awards shows is breaking your heart, check out E!'s 2006 special, Best Of The Worst Red Carpet Moments. Maybe they'll include that one time Joan Rivers was incoherent. (E!, 10 AM)
He Is The Egg Man; He Is The Walrus: On MythBusters, Adam and Jamie take on the notion that you can kill someone by dropping a penny off a skyscraper. I hope nobody tries it out from Top Of The Rock, you guys. That's all I need. (Discovery, 11 AM)
And The Unknown Winner Is: IFC is ready to hand out the nominations for the Independent Spirit Awards; be there when they do. (IFC, 12:45 PM)
Injected Into Meg Ryan -- That Is A Hard Life: The TWoP staff has owned up before to all the stupid movies we watch whenever they're on, and I forgot to mention one when they asked me. I always watch Innerspace, only partially because of the stubborn and passionate desire for Dennis Quaid that has stayed with me ever since I saw The Big Easy. (MoreMax, 1:45 PM)
Addison Alert: Before Kate Walsh was a twinkle in Shonda Rimes's eye, she was part of a Law & Order in which she played a military woman with a few Terrible Secrets to her name. (TNT, 2 PM)
Hawkeye The Great: In an absolutely fantastic episode of M*A*S*H, both Hawkeye and Radar face up to the consequences of Radar's hero worship of Hawkeye. It's sadly unusual for television shows to intelligently address themselves to relationships that aren't of obvious types -- romantic, parent/child, or maybe best friends. The fact that they took so seriously the complexities of this unique, carefully built connection between these characters always struck me as a great example of how great character-driven shows are supposed to work. (Hallmark, 6:30)
And Now, We Dance And Keep It Real: WOOOOO! It's Center Stage! Wing will be so happy, you guys. Be sure to check out her recap, which is one of my favorites of all time. (Oxygen, 5:30 PM)
Momentous Occasion Alert: Tonight's Law & Order episode, dealing with a rapper's death, claims to be Elizabeth Rohm's last appearance, and you know what that means. Come on, you know what that means. Let's all say it together. Don't make me tell you. I think we're all above that. (TNT, 7 PM)
Difficult Moments: On Ghost Whisperer: "Melinda deals with an angry ghost who blames Jim for his death in a gas explosion." Awkward. (CBS, 8 PM)
Not To Brag, But: I feel equipped to opine that High School Musical 2 is the most orange TV movie of all time. (Disney, 8 PM)
You Can't Get Around It, So Let's Get Out Of It: A new episode of Friday Night Lights seems to have something to do with Matt and Carlotta, and as little as I care about that storyline, I keep hoping that maybe every week that it's on, that will be the week they decide to acknowledge that nobody cares.
Lift The Girls!: An interior designer learns to dress better, on a new What Not To Wear. In other words: it's an episode of What Not To Wear. (TLC, 9 PM)
They're Endangered, Fella: Whee! Jim Gaffigan is on The Late Show With David Letterman. Gaffigan is a woefully underappreciated comedian, and if you've never heard his bit about feeling like a perv when he answers the door for room service while wearing a hotel bathrobe, I encourage you to immediately track down a copy of Beyond The Pale. ("I'm in my roooooobe. And here's the bed I rented. Is there any way I could be more creepy?") (CBS, 11:35 PM)
