BLOGS
Your last FNL, a new BBC try, and how great thread titles are made, not born. After the jump.
And She Is Telling You This Joke Is Destined To End Badly: If watching the new season of American Idol is making you crave
reassurance that it doesn't have a perfect record of failing to locate
talented people, check out Dreamgirls, which I don't think is
successful on all levels, but as proof that Jennifer Hudson is really
talented, it's a home run. (HBO Signature, 11 AM)
Move! That! Hunky Dude!: I've never seen a half-hour episode of True Hollywood Story before, but it somehow seems appropriate that the first one I come across is about Ty Pennington. I mean...I can't disagree. (E!, 11:30 AM)
Double-Booty: A twofer of Jennifer Lopez and Janet Jackson on Will & Grace airs this morning, with J.Lo at 11:00 AM and J.Ja at 11:30. Every week is stunt casting week! (Lifetime, 11 AM/11:30 AM)
I AM SORRY: And here we are at another Little House milestone: the incredibly creepy, deeply disturbing Sylvia episodes, in which Albert's little girlfriend is sexually assaulted. I'd leave you out of it, but how can I not point out the episode that brought us the dark yet hilarious thread title in the TWoP forums: "Little House On The Prairie: Ma, Pa, And That Mime Who Raped Sylvia"? (Hallmark, 3 PM/4 PM)
I Will Now Move This Paragraph With My Teeth: Every now and then, I think you should take in an episode of the World's Strongest Man Competition. It's good for you. Keeps you strong! Puts hair on your chest! RUH! (ESPN2, 4 PM)
Forrest Gump's Daddy: The witty X-Files episode "Musings Of A Cigarette-Smoking Man" includes CSM's encounters with Lee Harvey Oswald and his effect on the Buffalo Bills. I personally think the show was best when it walked this weird line of light and darkness, which is why it never recovered after Mulder's disappearance sapped its mischievous sense of humor. Enjoy the faboo William B. Davis and his unforgettable portrayal of one of TV's iconic Dark Figures. (Sci Fi, 4 PM)
Down To The Wire: We are now at the last new episode of Friday Night Lights, which is the only new piece of network scripted television other than an episode of Las Vegas with Terry Bradshaw -- and that's during February sweeps. Let's all hope the writers are offered a deal they can afford to accept, because everybody wants to get back to work, and the hole in the culture is starting to hurt. (NBC, 9 PM)
Important Stuff Alert: Don't forget to make time in your entertainment schedule to look at the world around you from time to time. Bill Moyers' Journal tonight includes some potentially good segments, including books the next president should read. It's so sad when the first thing I think of is -- you guessed it -- "I just hope the next president can read." (PBS, 9 PM)
Bright Spot From Across The Pond?: BBC America is debuting That Mitchell And Webb Look, a new comedy based on a radio show. Being honest, I don't know much about it, but the situation being what it is, I'm certainly willing to try it. (BBC America, 9:20 PM)
Psyyyyyych!: The other piece of scripted TV I could scrape up tonight is Psych, which...is on. (USA, 10 PM)
