Thin Saturday picks; watch a little gladiator-ing and prepare for tomorrow -- one of the biggest TV days of the year, if you like dudes' butts.
Poor Louisiana: On a new Semi-Homemade Cooking, Sandra Lee celebrates the cuisine of Louisiana. You have powdered shrimp in your cabinet, right? (Food Network, 10 AM)
Weird Nostalgia: Costas Mandylor and Lauren Holly in a movie called Just Desserts where they enter a dessert-making competition? Am I lame for knowing that this reunites them years after Picket Fences? Okay, sorry. Sorry. (Hallmark, 1 PM)
Source Materials: Been to see Cloverfield? Check out its spiritual ancestor, The Blair Witch Project. Compare and contrast! (TMC, 2:30 PM)
Ooooooh! Aaaaaaah!: If you're like me, your favorite part of every skating competition is the exhibition afterwards where Katarina Witt dances like Michael Jackson. Okay, that was like 25 years ago, but still. This year's U.S. Figure Skating Championships close out with a celebratory extravaganza. (NBC, 4 PM)
Go, Meat Slammers!: On a new American Gladiators: Fighting! (NBC, 8 PM)
By Popular Demand: Courtesy of Kate, who does a fine job advocating for BBC America's Torchwood: "Series 2 just started last week, and the first episode included the following elements: a six-foot fish driving a sports car; an excellent Star Wars joke; paralyzing lip gloss; and James Marsters (from Buffy) and John Barrowman alternately making out with and beating the crap out of each other. What's not to like? You can catch a rerun of Episode 1 of Series 2 at 8 PM and the new episode is right afterwards at 9 PM." Thanks, Kate! (BBC America, 8 PM/9 PM)
Despair, Part The First: Delta Burke plays a romance novelist advising a young editor who blah blah blah Bridal Fever just kill me now. (Hallmark, 9 PM)
Despair, Part The Second: Janeane Garofalo slums it in a Lifetime movie as a young woman who blah blah blah road trip with her mother's dog blah blah blah "learns to love" Girl's Best Friend WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE WORLD? (Lifetime, 9 PM)
I HATE YOU! I'M LETTING HILDI DO YOUR WALLS!: So have you heard that Mindy Paige Davis Page came back to Trading Spaces? Sure you have. Good old MPDP. And now, they trade in these weird combinations, like tonight, when "authoritarian mother" and "rebellious daughter" trade spaces. Brings a whole new level of emotion to those discussions about ripping out the ceiling fans, I tell you what.
