Daily Picks For Thursday, February 7, 2008

by Miss Alli February 7, 2008 11:25 AM
The return of Jeff Probst, the premiere of Brooke Shields, and more delicious Dr. Drew are among today's highlights.

(Sorry for the late arrival of GTC today. I'm running a bit behind, thanks to a trying morning I will only describe using the words "eye" and "infected," but it's all fine now, though we'll be a little brief today. Through my bleary, medically-cared-for eye, I will happily receive any suggestions you have for GTC entries. We've gotten several good ones, and we do incorporate them as we can, so send them on ahead to missalli at televisionwithoutpity dot com. Thanks!)

Fav's Regret:
Seriously, the only thing I know about Mrs. Parker And The Vicious Circle is that Jon Favreau was cut from it and still talks about it a lot, or so I've heard from the GBC. If you want to know whether it's an actually good movie, you can catch it today. (IFC, 12:20 PM)

Get Out Of The Waaaaay!: As you know, Deep Impact is only half of the famous pair of asteroid movies (the other one being, of course, Armageddon). Deep Impact, not to spoil you, is the darker of the two, and the one that involves Morgan Freeman as the president and does not involve the suggestion that oil drillers can be turned into astronauts more easily than astronauts could be turned into guys who can use drills. (TMC, 4:15 PM)

Milestone Alert: M*A*S*H says farewell to Radar in a two-part episode that, like so many other departures, will probably leave you in desperate need of a hanky. (Hallmark, 5:30 PM/6 PM)

Probst Invasion: You've waited...well, not very long, actually, and it's time for Survivor: Micronesia to steam onto the screen, bringing a pack of newbies as well as old "favorites" including three actual favorites (Cirie, Jonathan, and Yau Man) and seven people I didn't need to ever see again (Jon Dalton, Ami, Eliza, Amanda, James, Ozzy, and freakin' Parvati). I have no idea what this is going to bring, but the decision to bring back people like Amanda and Ami demonstrates, in my opinion, just how slack-ass this show is when it comes to casting women who are at all compelling. RAR! (CBS, 8 PM)

Afoul Of The...What?: It's when I see episode descriptions beginning with "Chloe runs afoul of the Black Canary" that I realize there's a good reason I don't watch Smallville. (CW, 8 PM)

Mischievous Scheduling Alert: Lost repeats last week's intriguing season premiere before diving in with a new episode at 9 PM in which the Lostaways rescuers continue to come into focus. For taping types: remember that it runs 63 minutes, so drape your tape over the gap. (ABC, 8 PM/9 PM)

And In This Window, Stephen Baldwin Will Save Your Soul: Celebrity Apprentice is doing window displays, so..."yay"? (NBC, 9 PM)

Ta-Da!: A new Supernatural is all about dreams and potions, and that's probably all you need to know. (CW, 9 PM)

He Totally Respects His Wife, You Guys: It's a new Celebrity Rehab, and I assume the fallout from last week's Daniel Baldwin scandal will be scattering all over Mary Carey's poor, porn-tastic self. (VH1, 10 PM)

Delusions Of Grandeur: The new Eli Stone episode is titled "Freedom," which only makes me wonder...wasn't the last episode titled "Freedom"? Because "Freedom" is totally what I had in my head. I am confusing myself. (ABC, 10:03 PM -- seriously)

Three Ladies: If you like Cashmere Mafia, you probably have no reason whatsoever to watch Lipstick Jungle, unless you feel like you desperately need more of the...yeah, never mind. Lipstick Jungle is on! Brooke Shields! The Tom-Cruise-inator! (NBC, 10 PM)
