Daily Picks For Tuesday, June 3, 2008

Bummerville, USA.If the new TV Land reality show She's Got the Look (CMTV, 5:30 PM) about over-the-hill model wannabes is in fact what I imagine it to be -- a perfect hybrid of America's Next Top Model and The Real Housewives of New York City -- then it's destined for greatness. Suddenly I'm really in the mood to listen to Roxette. Sha la la la la!

The Moment of Truth (Fox 8 PM) -- in which people willingly subject themselves to humiliation via polygraph machine in front of a television audience, not to mention their friends and family -- is the type of programming that sort of seems made up. It's so grotesque that it's almost like a parody of itself, like something that would've appeared as a spoof in Idiocracy or some junk. It makes me feel like dying that way.

Is it me or is TV a fucking bummer today? I just read somewhere that a recent HK castoff committed suicide. And yet, Gordon Ramsay continues to sweat and scream and generally instill fear in the hearts of his underling chefs in Hell's Kitchen (Fox, 9 PM). If he weren't such a brilliant cook, I'd really feel like chopping his head off with a meat cleaver. Tune in and see whose life he ruins this week!

Not depressed enough yet? Check out Women Behind Bars (WE 9 PM), WE's ongoing documentary about ladies in prison and rethink that plot you've been developing to snuff out your landlord.

More uplifting fare! For this week's installment of Morgan Spurlock's docu-drama 30 Days (FX, 9 PM), we'll see what it's like to be a coal miner. (They still have those? Really?) If you need some cheering up afterward, feel free to crank Devo's "Working in a Coal Mine" and drink a few tumblers of moonshine.

Or you could simply watch a new episode of The Daily Show (Comedy Central, 11PM), which will feature the hysterical and totally rad David Sedaris and therefore be even more likely than usual to crack your shit up.
