Daily Picks For Tuesday, January 6, 2009

Rowdy, no!

Why do they even bother taking a break? The Biggest Loser (NBC, 8 PM) is back already, but with "couples," which doesn't necessarily mean romantic couples, as most of the "couples" are just friends, or mother and daughter, or cousins (could be romantic, but c'mon it's primetime), or sisters, etc. They should have just called it The Biggest Loser: Two People at a Time, Same as It Always Is, What Do You Want from Us? instead and it actually would have been more descriptive than the title they went with, is all I'm saying.

Homeland Security USA (ABC, 8 PM) has a badass name, but it looks really boring, and not at all like the TERRORIST STOMPING BADASSERY NON-STOP 24 HOURS A DAY USA! USA! kind of program that I was expecting. And in desperate need of.

Scrubs (ABC, 9 PM) has moved to ABC and there are even talks of a spin-off in the press, because it still refuses to die. That being said, I'd totally watch a spin-off starring Rowdy, no question.

Are you guys watching and/or enjoying Leverage (TNT, 10 PM) at all? Should it be mentioned here going forward? I have no idea. I tried to watch it once and got crazy bored and had to change the channel, but I've had that experience the first time I tried to watch a lot of great shows, so it's very possible I overreacted. You know, all that griping by the academic types about how too much television can give you a short attention span might be a little bit accurate when you think about it. What were we talking about again? Moving on.

Nip/Tuck (FX, 10 PM) is back! I've actually seen this episode already and let me tell you -- this show is still as awesomely insane as it ever was. At the risk of spoiling everything for you, I can tell you you can expect some seriously hot wheelchair sex tonight. In the episode, I mean. Not in your life.

The following makes me uncomfortable. Primetime: What Would You Do (ABC, 10 PM) is a reality show that sends actors out in the world to do terrible things like be loudly racist, or pretend to roofie their dates, just to see if the regular people around them will intervene. Aak, and it just reminded me of that 20/20 special where actors went to a park and abused old people for the same reason. It was fake, but it still broke my heart. I'm so not watching this.
