Fans of The Mentalist, good news! Finally, there is a second show on TV for you to -- whoops, that was the beginning of my article about Lie to Me. Sorry about that. No, Psych already had two seasons under its belt when The Mentalist rolled into town, and had already impressed its Monk-loving lead-in audience with its hilarious tales of a hyper-observant, perfectly-coiffed, fake-psychic investigator and his partner. (To be fair, The Mentalist features a former fake psychic, but it's still kinda uncanny.) Anyhoo, partners Shawn and Gus are always making pop-culture references and exchanging witty banter, and it's actually a lot of fun for anyone who enjoys the TV shows of Joss Whedon -- just be prepared for a lot less angst. Also, Whedon has likely never written a Super Bowl tie-in episode for any of his shows. (Maybe when he worked on Roseanne?)
To celebrate the upcoming unavoidable sporting event, tonight's episode has the pair doing some snooping at a professional football camp after a missing kicker's severed foot is discovered. Mykelti Williamson plays a quarterback that Gus used to look up to as a child, and Shawn dons a jersey in order to impress the jock-loving Detective O'Hara, who apparently used to date a Miami Dolphin. I'm no fan of football-themed episodes -- mostly because I'm no fan of football -- and it only gets more daunting knowing that, after this, I have to sit through the Super Bowl to watch all of the new movie commercials. (Yo, Joe!) However, there is one bright spot -- if the clip on the show's homepage is accurate, tonight's episode looks like it will have the reference to The Mentalist that Dulé Hill promised in a recent interview. Take that, TV show!
Psych airs on USA at 10:00 on Fridays. Check our listings to find out what else is on tonight.

I love Psych! The Mentalist is like the poor man's version, even though Simon Baker is seriously hot.
"tonight's episode looks like it will have the reference to The Mentalist that Dulé Hill promised"
One of the phone company already sniped the "Mentalist" reference. Dule Hill is under fire, using his phone to program his DVR to Tues at 9:00 so he doesn't miss his favorite show. haha tues at 9:00 is "The Mentalist"
