Fans of The Mentalist, good news! Finally, there is a second show on TV for you to watch. We know, we know -- you only like shows that feature a highly insightful person decoding crimes or mysteries with the help of a young, reasonably attractive team of investigators, which meant that until now, you could only watch one program per week. Well, this show fits that criteria exactly, so make that two! ...Seriously, the press has been telling us to be on the lookout for shows that knocked off The Mentalist, the only success story from last fall's pilot season, but who knew the first one would star a big gun like Tim Roth? Whether you loved him in Reservoir Dogs (me!) or The Incredible Hulk (me! me!), he's just as quirky and interesting here, and he may be the one who keeps me interested in the show until the rest of the cast starts to grow on me (if that ever happens).
Tonight's episode is about a female soldier who accuses a commanding officer of sexual assault, with a B-plot about the team investigating a potential athletic bribe. So nobody got murdered this week, which is good. Roth has said that that will be a big difference between their show and The Mentalist -- the Lie to Me team is a bunch of consultants, and they consult on a variety of situations. (The first episode, of course, was a murder.) Sounds good to me, as long as I never have to sit through an episode featuring Brendan Hines' character, who is pompous and smug. And if he hooks up with Michelle Rodriguez Lite (played by fellow "M.R." Monica Raymund), he will only be more insufferable. Or maybe she'll break him in two like a puppy. Having never watched The Practice, I can only assume that Kelli Williams is as talented as she is pretty, so hopefully she'll be as front-and-center as she was in the premiere. Her banter with Roth's Dr. Lightman was the highlight of the show for me, so keep it coming, Fox.
Lie to Me airs on Fox at 9:00 on Wednesdays. Check our listings to find out what else is on tonight.

The commercials show the commanding officer is David Anders, aka Sark from ALIAS!! Good enough reason to at least watch this show once!

Mentalist is a rip off of Psych. So Lie to Me is a rip off of a rip off.
I don't know ... The Mentalist is most watchable because you need dreamy, cherubic Simon Baker to pull of the crazy actions and statements of Patrick Jane. That show is all about characters rather than plot.
Don't you understand that only an "indie" actor can make a ripoff of a ripoff worth watching? IT doesn't matter that the show is unoriginal or that the actor in questions has not done anything with a real paycheck in a decade or more.
