Monday, February 2, 2009: Chuck

In case you missed the billion commercials during the Super Bowl, Chuck is airing a new episode tonight. And in 3-D no less. Which means that you've got to drag out those stupid glasses, or else you are going to get a headache trying to watch the fuzzy scenes. However, I've got my stupid glasses ready, because I love this show, but also because my very favorite little hobbit is guest starring.

Dominic Monaghan is playing Tyler Martin, which seems to be sort of a version of his DriveShaft alter ego Charlie from Lost, which is just about the most awesome thing ever. He doesn't appear to be singing "You All Everybody," but still, he's dressed in full rocker regalia, complete with a healthy dose of eyeliner. Seriously, I'm squealing in anticipation.

It also seems that The Bus (Jerome Bettis) is in this episode. Which, despite my lack of football knowledge, could be good, since this show seems to do well with former athletes (they had Michael Strahan on earlier this year) and since it looks like the nerds at the Buy More worship and fear him. Anything that gives my favorite geek squad more attention is cool by me.

And while the onslaught of commercials didn't really get into it (too busy turning Chuck into a one-dimensional character and having him goof around with Morgan), there's that whole emotional rollercoaster that Chuck and Sara are on, which is currently at an all time since he saw her kill a guy in cold blood and lie about it. Yeah, that's kind of an eye-opener. How this unfolds and how their working relationship changes -- or doesn't -- is truly the heart of this often silly show.

Still need a reason to watch? Chuck and Tyler go crowd surfing. And as a bonus, it is likely to be less frustrating and upsetting than Heroes (which is also returning tonight).

Chuck airs at 8 PM on NBC. Check our listings for more of what is on tonight.
