It's back. And returning in the worst timeslot ever. It is going to be on at 8:30 PM on ABC tonight... right about when a certain little show called American Idol will be revealing its results. Excellent. I'm so sure that people will make sure to watch this instead. Which is sad, because I actually like this show and would like more people to watch it, but I think it is getting a raw deal. Even without Idol, Thursdays are already crowded with Survivor, Bones and NBC's comedies. And this show isn't kicking off the night, it is following new series In the Motherhood, which might be cute, but the commercials make me want to throw something at the TV... so that's not so awesome. But, maybe I underestimate audience's love of Megan Mullally, or maybe people will tune in thinking Ugly Betty is on and be too lazy to change the channel. I dunno. I'm pretty skeptical. And the fact that ABC has only scheduled six out of the eleven filmed episodes... doesn't bode well for this quirky comedy.
All that said, tonight's episode is very enjoyable. I got a sneak peek at it before I talked to Christina Applegate the other day. Sam decides that she doesn't like the fact that Andrea and Tony Dane have been text dating forever, and schemes a way to get the two of them to meet. This involves her in a locker room posing as a reporter and surrounded by half-naked athletes. She also takes total advantage of Todd's status as her best friend and uses him as her go-to date. Needless to say, neither of these things really turn out all that well for her. But its sort of adorable in that Sam doesn't understand the world kind of a way. Oh, and Sam learns about history via the TV. As it should be. In the B-plot, Sookie Dena finds herself e-cheating on her boyfriend with a soldier totally by accident. Regina has to come to the rescue. Which is great, because frankly Jean Smart is awesome and should have ridiculous things to do in every episode.
So that's basically my big preview. I found it to be a solid and funny episode. If you enjoy this show, don't forget to tune in. And get busy crossing those fingers and saying prayers to the TV Gods that it survives.
