April 2, 2009: ER

Get your tissues ready -- it's the final, final, final ER ever. For real. After 15 seasons, the medical drama is signing off. As I wrote earlier this year, the show is going out on a high note, having recaptured some of the magic of some of its earlier seasons. And the last few weeks have been no exception. From Carter's kidney surgery (which organically brought back Julianna Margulies, Eriq LaSalle and George Clooney) to the touching and well-handled departure of Neela (Parminder Nagra). It's been one sweet moment after another. Archie grew up and got pseudo-engaged. Haleh got teary-eyed when Neela left, so did Dubenko. Frank tried to be nice. They let Banfield adopt her baby. And Gates and Sam found a way to get along. Heck, they even made Simon pretty likable.

But tonight's got Ernest Borgnine with a dying wife, and features the return of Corday (Alex Kingston), Susan Lewis (Sherry Stringfield), Kerry Weaver (Laura Innes), Mark Greene's daughter Rachel, and Benton (LaSalle) who are all on hand to help Carter open up his big fancy clinic. Looks like they'll be remembering the good old days, and bringing this show back full circle to when Carter was just a know-nothing little med student. Which will probably reduce me to using an entire box of tissues. Heck, Neela's reunion with Ray (Shane West) made me sniffly, and that was just one person -- this is the whole show. The only fun thing will be seeing Alexis Bledel as the new girl in the ER. Not sure why she's only there for the finale, but I do like Rory, so that should be cool. Otherwise, I'll be a blubbering mess.

ER airs tonght at 8:00/7:00 Central on NBC, and never again, though the full series is finally available on iTunes. For more TV viewing recommendations, check out our Week in Preview.

A show I will truely MISS and keep my fingers cross they will reconsider bringing back. It lasted 15 seasons and could last another. It always left you wanting more and still with the finale I still wanted more. I love the CSI Las Vegas also but that is what dvr's are for and on demand you can have them both. Although once they killed off Rourke I was ticked and then Grissim left and Sarah was already gone I have been really disappointed Nick Catherine and Greg made the show and now it is like half of it is missing.
