Sunday, April 19: Sit Down, Shut Up

Sunday, April 19: Sit Down, Shut Up

Arrested Development fans, your day is finally here...assuming you thought your day was going to include the premiere of an animated series about a bunch of obnoxious teachers at an underperforming Florida high school. For that's just what Mitchell Hurwitz (take a look-see at our interview with him and Will Forte here!), and apparently two executive producers from Two and a Half Men, have brought us. Seems like an unlikely choice -- and yes, the humor will be broader and raunchier, but it's animated so that sort of mitigates the squeam factor -- but with Mitch Hurwitz at the wheel, I'm willing to go for a drive. Read on to find out why you should be too.

Arrested Development was all about unlikable characters. Be serious, could you really have attended more than two minutes of a social gathering with Lindsay, or Gob, or God forbid Lucille? Of course not -- and we've got a similar type of thing going on in Sit Down, Shut Up, where the teachers' idiosyncrasies range on the obnoxious gamut, concentrated on the "high" side (though with admittedly more sexual obnoxiousness than any Bluth ever). Our window into this world is put-upon gym teacher Larry Littlejunk (yes, they all have names like that), just as our window into the model home was put-upon middle son Michael Bluth. And guess what -- Jason Bateman plays both characters! Reason enough to watch right there!

But in case your Bateman-fanaticism isn't enough to glue you to your couch at 8:30 PM (and if not, shame on you -- and yes, I saw Smokin' Aces but I don't care!), then take a look at the rest of the rather phenomenal voice cast: in addition to the Bateman, we've got Will Arnett and Henry Winkler from our beloved AD, SNL past and present cast members Kenan Thompson, Will Forte, and Cheri Oteri, the divine Kristin Chenoweth, and the guy who does the voice of SpongeBob! I mean, what else do you people want? Will Forte's character grows breasts! There's fourth-wall breaking where the characters actually talk to Mitch Hurwitz! I mentioned Jason Bateman, right?

Anyway, don't make a huge mistake and miss this premiere. It's going to be crazier than a loose seal and more fun than shaking a hop-on off the stair car. Come on!

Not convinced? Check out what else is on in our Week in Preview.
