Friday, May 15, 2009: Prison Break

What a long, strange, messed-up, deadly, unpredictable, ridiculous, implausible trip it has been. It is hard to believe that Prison Break is finally signing off, but it is almost as difficult to believe that it has even lasted this long. The twists and turns that were interesting during Season 1 and 2 became more and more difficult to buy as the show went along. Even though it is only the end of the fourth season, with the amount of crap they crammed in, it has felt like so much more. It is hard to even remember a time when I actually really liked this show and wasn't just watching by rote.

Still I stuck with it, so did Sobell (god bless her, seriously) and we've finally reached the messed up conclusion, which looks to leave Michael in dire straits. He either has to save the girlfriend (who he already thought died once, but is alive again and may be having his baby) or his brother (who was the only reason that he even got involved in this whole mess in the first place). Honestly, this is one of the few shows where I'd be really happy if the whole thing turned out to be a trippy dream in Michael's head (caused by one of those brain tumors that seem to run in his family... or not) and he woke up staring at the Fox River blueprints on the day of Lincoln's execution. I doubt that actually would happen, but who the hell knows with this show. With all of the preposterous ways that Michael and co. have slipped out of sticky situations before, I wouldn't be surprised if they had Michael somehow able to save both Sara and Lincoln and they all lived happily ever after sailing on the Christina Rose into the sunset. Though given what we know about the actual Christina Rose now... they might want to rechristen that sailboat.

If you haven't been following, don't start now. Watch something else. Trust me. There are better ways to spend two hours. This series finale is just for the diehard suckers who feel the need to see how it all winds up. Mostly, I am just interested in what happens to T-Bag. Mr. Theodore Bagwell, rapist, murderer and one-handed underhanded schemer extraordinaire is the reason I've been hanging on this long. I hope he gets a special sort of send-off.
