I don't watch it every week, but when I do, I'm always impressed with how good a show Medium is. Patricia Arquette isn't the most gripping actress in the world, but she plays a fun character as awesomely sarcastic as she is incredibly earnest. And her husband is played by Jake Weber, who was so awesome in Dawn of the Dead that I still love him to this day. And while most weeks she has a new case to solve, with only her confusing dreams to guide her, there's usually a parallel thread she has to deal with that affects her family in some way, and sometimes the two intermingle. Plus, the status quo of the family is constantly changing: One episode they're unemployed and broke, a few episodes later they have jobs, but they're being stalked by a psychopath, and the next week one of her daughters has demonstrated a new psychic ability. Basically, the problems never end for the Dubois family. Which is why I think I need to watch tonight's 2-hour event -- because it looks like big stuff might happen.
How do I know? Because the episodes are parts 1 and 2 of a three-part story titled "How to Make A Killing in Big Business." It looks like Allison gets offered a job paying six figures, but she has to write down all of her dreams for it, and the choice of words in the title makes me think killing is involved somehow, and it usually is. Plus, there are two big guest stars: Tracy Pollan gets a shout-out for what looks like a sizable role, despite having done mostly TV-movies since she played Alex P. Keaton's girlfriend on Family Ties. But they only briefly show David Morse (House, Disturbia, John Adams), so I'm thinking he's not as prominent. Also, I guess he's still not exactly a household name, while Medium's mostly-moms audience has probably seen Pollan's turn in various Danielle Steele telepics. Don't trust either of them, Allison! They're eeeevil!
The two-hour Medium airs tonight at 9/8C on NBC. For more viewing options check out our Week in Preview!
