Summer has arrived, and with it comes a bevy of mediocre network shows that weren't worthy of a fall or midseason debut, so they got shuffled off to the doldrums of summer. Not to say that there haven't been decent summer shows in the past on major network television, but in general they are few and far between. Reality TV and cable dramas seem to dominate the season. Still, the networks continue to try, and with that we get Mental. It's a new series on Fox, that is about a psychiatrist who takes on the tough cases. The ones no one else wants. The commercials look iffy, and it's probably a bad sign that the only thing that made me remotely interested in this show was that the teaser had Prison Break's Haywire (Silas Weir Mitchell) in it. Looks like he's playing another insane character. Poor guy, he probably gets typecast a lot. Anyway, the show's leads are Chris Vance (another Prison Break alum) and Annabella Sciorra, who is playing his uptight ex who doesn't like his unconventional ways. Basically, it looks perfectly fine, predictable and boring. Will I be watching? Well, at least for one episode. But if it's a dull as it seems, I'm switching to Hitched or Ditched or the intriguing-sounding I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant. So many quality choices this time of year.
Mental airs on Fox at 9 PM. For alternative viewing, check out our Week in Preview.

I actually really loved it, I'm interested to see how it goes, I was impressed, I didn't expect to like it as much as I did.
