Battlestar Galactica creator Ron Moore is back with a new show set in outer space. But it's not related at all to the BSG world -- instead, it's centered on the crew of a long-range space mission on their way to deep space to find intelligent life. They also have every move filmed for a reality show that is being broadcast back on Earth. And, just to make everything even more complicated, they also have virtual-reality headbands that they wear in order to escape the monotony of the boring day-to-day life of being trapped on a tiny ship for ten years. Oh, and Earth, totally screwed by global weather crises.
Not complicated at all, right? There's also a computer glitch that is affecting the virtual reality scenarios, and there's a random person in them who likes to kill the people while they are in their minds. But it's not for real death, just a temporary mental thing. There's also a ship's doctor who is ill, which is a threat to the whole mission.
There's a whole lot of plots and ideas crammed into this two-hour TV-movie, which could be a pilot for a series, if it does well enough. I watched the pilot, and I wasn't totally sold, but it does raise some interesting ideas. Probably too many, though.
Virtuality airs from 8-10 pm (7-9C) on Fox.
