To say that I'm excited for the second season would be an understatement. I'm really, really excited. I was interested last summer when this one came around because I had read the books and thought it would be fun, but I had no idea that I would be so addicted. Actually that's not entirely true because in the past I have become quite obsessed with shows about vampires... now that I think about it. I just originally thought that Anna Paquin was pretty much miscast (still sort of do, but I'm getting past it). And I was worried that they wouldn't keep to the stories, but they are.... sort of... at least to the spirit of Charlaine Harris' addictive supernatural mysteries and most of the big plot points (if changing a lot of details along the way), so I'm OK with that.
Anyway, this new season picks up where we left off with Sookie and friends finding out who exactly is in that car (it is who you probably think it is... sniff) and finding out who is responsible, all while trying to deal with the increasingly demanding Eric. Oh, how I love Eric. He hasn't been given nearly enough to do yet, but boy, in the books he's downright awesome. I'm interested to see how this all plays out as Sookie this season has to try and figure out who killed her friend and cope a lot with the wackadoos in the Fellowship of the Sun. Those culty folks? They are just not good people.
Can't wait to see how this season unfolds, and what twists and turns they've got planned. If you haven't been sucked in yet, it's not too late, here's what you really need to know. Sookie is a cute, buxom waitress who can hear people's thoughts. Her boss is a shapeshifter, her brother likes to be naked all the time, her best friend makes bad personal choices, her boyfriend is a vampire, and there's this other vamp bar owned by Eric and is frequented by folks called "fangbangers" (boys and girls who like to have sex with vampires). That should get you started. Doesn't it sound like fun?

have to say, I actually enjoy the show WAY more than the books. While season 1 followed fairly close to book 1, I'm hearing season 2 really only used book 2 as a template, but AB & Co. are creating their own take on the world from this point on (which ok by me!) The show is truly addictive & I have to say that all of the other media they devote to it is really fun (fake PSA's from the Fellowship & Vamp league, a news show, lots & lots of fun on-line material). I wasn't sold on Anna initially, but she actually anoys me less here than Sookie did in the books, so she must be doing something right. Love Pam! And Lafayette is quit possibly my favorite character on TV ever. sniff:( Great TV!
I'm so anxious, I'm on three different fan sites right now (thank God for tabs). Now, about the body, several bloggers have revealed the identity, and all I will say is their revealed identity is someone without a Y-chromosome. There's less than 36 hours until we know for sure. (And if you ask me, Anna is way better as Sookie than as Rogue.)
I watched the show because I love me some Alan Ball, and found it highly addictive. There's something kind of magical and swampy/sexy about the tone of the thing. And it has a sense of humor about itself, which is refreshing.
So then I was like, "Hey I'm an avid reader, why don't I give the books a try?"
I couldn't get through the first one. It was so badly written it was kind of embarrassing. So I give Alan Ball even more kudos for making the show so enjoyable.
I am so, so excited for tonight!!I read all 9 books in 5 days but I have to say that I like the show way more (which is rare for me). I had to read the books because I just couldn"t take the anticipation & then Alan Ball had to mention them in the season 1 commentary. :-)
I agree with Kris, Anna playing Sookie is way less annoying than Sookie in the books.
Only a couple of hours! Whoo hoo!
Wowza, that was a great episode, especially Bill and Sookie baring their souls, then baring something else.
And I am so torn over Lafayette's situation and the request in the promo.
I thought that the premiere was amazing...much better than I was expecting. I never read the books, but since I was awakened to the show a year ago I just can't get enough.
I literally screamed in happiness when I saw that it wasn't Lafayette who was dead! And then I saw him on the carousel of death in that basement and I was like, "Ohhh shit." So glad he's still here, but man, is he in trouble. Shouldn't have sold that V, baby! I gave another little shriek at him asking to be a vamp in the promo, too. Yikes.
And all of the scenes with Bill and Jessica had me cracking up. They've got great chemistry, he's got great comedic timing.
And am I the only one who absolutely adores Mary-Ann? Maybe it's because I think that the actress is amazing (in Kalifornia and in BSG. Oh, Cain!) but she's just such a badass. And what she said to Tara's mom was amazing. She may be evil, but I want her to stick around forever.
Love the books, love the series. I'm across the pond in Britain so I haven't seen last night's episode yet, but I am so excited! I may have rewatched all of the first season to review over the last weekend...
Just a note - other people leaving comments here should probably try to avoid spoiling last night's episode! Have pity on us who haven't seen it yet!
