BLOGS
The all-consuming TV series that takes over my entire life for two and a half months every summer kicks off its new season tonight. I'm so excited. I sort of wish I weren't as obsessed with this show, but even when I'm too cheap to buy the live feeds, I'm still constantly reading blogs to find out what's happening in the house at any given moment, and yes, I even watch After Dark on Showtime. I find it sort of soothing to watch before I go to bed or if I TiVo and watch in the morning. The boring, unedited conversations are like a lullaby to put me to sleep, or company while I'm getting ready for work.
This eleventh edition kicks off tonight and the "twist" is that the house is now green friendly and the cast members all fall into three distinct cliques. There's the popular people, the nerdy brainiacs and the offbeat outcast types. Great, because high school was so much fun for most people the first time around. Oh, who am I kidding, I love watching high school drama play out now that I don't actually have to live it. These twelve contestants look like an interesting bunch. Watching their videos it is hard to judge who will be a stand out, since it really is all about the interpersonal dynamics of how they mesh when they are in the house.
I'm just so relived that no one is secretly related (or at least not that we know of yet) that I don't care about the theme, since I think every season has had those sorts of groups, or other kinds of cliques/alliances anyway. What I am slightly concerned about is that there is a thirteenth unknown person joining the house. There are rumors floating around that it is a former cast member, an idea which I'm not a fan of... unless it is Dr. Will. He's the exception to all of my rules.
This season does have one bonus feature that I'm super-psyched about -- the Chenbot is expecting. That means not only will I get to see her odd wardrobe all summer, but it will be a maternity wardrobe. It will be good times.
Big Brother 11 debuts tonight at 8 PM on CBS. If you can't handle watching these little hamsters in a cage, check out our week in preview for other options.
