To be completely honest, I think I'd be a hell of a lot more excited for Ruby & The Rockits if I were either 10 years younger or 30 years older. Alas, I have been burdened with a painful addiction to ABC Family, so there is a distinct possibility that I will tune in for tonight's series premiere.
The show is a precious little family sitcom that centers on David Gallagher, (David Cassidy), his daughter Ruby (Alexa Vega), and David's brother Patrick (Patrick Cassidy). Patrick has traded in his pop star days to become a family man, but David isn't quite ready to make the same sacrifice. So when he finds out he has a teenage daughter, David brings Ruby to his estranged brother's house and Patrick agrees to take her in while David goes on tour. Eventually they realize that Ruby can sing, and it's time to reunite the family band!
There are plenty of reasons why this show might suck -- mainly that it will be terribly lame -- but there's also the possibility that it might be a refreshingly wholesome change from our current TV era of Gossip Girl scandals and pregnant teens. Alexa Vega a.k.a. "that girl from Spy Kids" is 20 years old and has yet to show her boobs on the internet, and from the previews it looks like she might actually be able to sing. David Cassidy is adorable in that has-been sort of way, and Patrick Cassidy is kind of a DILF (I get that MILF is out, but I'm not sure what the male counterpart for "cougar" is). Plus, the show has a laugh track, and if that doesn't scream "wholesome family sitcom," I don't know what does.
If you're jonesin' for a remix edition of The Partridge Family, check out the premiere of Ruby and the Rockits tonight at 8:30 PM on ABC Family

I won't be watching this show, BUT wanted to say that Alexa Vega really does have an excellent voice. Check it out in REPO:The Genetic Opera. They don't test her range too much, but the voice is strong.
Warning, REPO is a very gory movie, and would not make the ABC Family cut, but it is worth seeing if you have a strong stomach. And GILES (from Buffy) is in it too!
