BLOGS
While walking to work this morning, I passed the Fox building, where guys holding balloons were handing out Ring Pops in order to promote More to Love. I've seen them give out roses or fake rings for dating shows before, but giving out Ring Pops (you know, the delicious little lollipops you can wear on your finger) seems kind of gross. Like way to promote a show about overweight people by adding to the obesity problem in America.
That aside, I saw this show a couple weeks ago and it is about what you'd expect. A bunch of insecure, or overly confident women come to date one guy in the hopes of finding their true love on a reality show. It's just as disgusting as The Bachelor, as on the first meetings, Mike's already asking the girls to kiss him. Charming. Whatever, I don't think I'm ever going to truly understand these dating shows that somehow pretend that what they are doing isn't at least a little gross on some level. I prefer the trashy ones where they are more blatant about things -- at least they aren't trying to make it into a fairy tale.
Here, it seems like a bunch of these women are either excellent actresses, or really hoping to find a guy who can love them even with some extra pounds on them. Some say they've never dated at all before. And Mike definitely appreciates curvy ladies, but still, most of these girls are going to go home crushed with yet one more blow to their already fragile self-esteem. Good times. Oh, and the fact that they all get promise rings that they have to turn in at the end of each episode in the hopes that they get it back is really just mean-spirited.
Watch if you want, it's really no worse than Dating in the Dark and features far less annoying puns about weight than your average episode of Dance Your Ass Off. There's other stuff on too.

I work for Lane Bryant and we were helping with the casting of the show at out stores. I was called in once so I could do crowd control during the male casting, lets just say I refused. Before this became public I was already cringing since women like that almost always still have problems with their self-esteem. They didn't need a dating show to make it worse.
Why is this...since they are fat they can't have good self esteem? I've met alot of sknny folks with crappy self esteem. Self esteem is not built on your body size it is built on your character, values and education.
