Tuesday, September 29, 2009: The Hills

The Hills are alive... with the sound of Kristin Cavallari. I've personally not given her much thought since Laguna Beach ended, but apparently whatever loftier aspirations she had didn't pan out that well for her and now she's back in this fake-reality downward spiral.

She made her debut on last season's finale, in a "shocking" moment that everyone saw coming since it was covered fairly extensively by the tabloid media. I'm not sure if I actually care one way or the other about her, but I sure do think she'll make the show slightly more interesting. She knows what people want to watch, and that's drama. While I think Lauren Conrad would be a nice person to know and hang out with (as opposed to pretty much everyone else on the cast) she was about as exciting to watch as paint drying. Actually, I think paint drying might be more satisfying to watch as far as television goes. Is there not a channel devoted to that yet? I'm sure by next year there will be. It'll be just like the Yule Log!

Anyway, if you actually care to see the fake drama the Kristin stirs up (and you kind of know you want to) it airs at 10 PM. It's followed by the horribly tedious show The City, which stars the horribly tedious Whitney. Supposedly they've given her new "friends," but until they get rid of her, I'm not giving it another chance.

I've watched exactly one episode of the Hills - the pilot. But I did like Kristin Cavallari in Veronica Mars. Not so much for her acting, but her character was interesting.

Sadly, I think the writing is on the wall, and the show is coming to an end after this season. Still, I'm glad to have The Hills back, even if this is the show’s last hurrah. No other show helps me feel better about myself than watching this drama unfold haha. Plus, last night they had some great music in the episode, too - I was way happy that they played “Warning” by Great Northern and “Sabotage” by Lydia Paek. You can watch video clips of both at : http://modestcomplexity.blogspot.com/2009/09/hills-premieres-with-2-great-songs.html
