If you haven't been watching any of the various Stargate television series... well, we can't blame you. We hear good things, of course, but they all look fairly continuity-heavy and frankly, a little silly. However, if you're looking for a jumping-on point, this is it. Not only is this the most star-studded Stargate show to date, it also seems to have the most in common with shows you already know and love. And we don't just mean the fact that the show's abbreviation, SGU, sounds like SVU.
Lou Diamond Phillips, Robert Carlyle and Ming-Na star in this new series, which concerns a team of soldiers and scientists who are transported through a Stargate (a highly advanced interplanetary transit system, natch) to an ancient spaceship in a remote region of the galaxy. With no way to get back home, they can only visit the planets the ship is passing by when they get within range of that planet's Stargate. So you've got a Star Trek vibe going on -- both Next Generation and a little bit of Voyager -- and with the big, dark ship and military themes, a little bit of Battlestar Galactica! If that's not reason enough to give a Stargate a try, I don't know what is.
Stargate: Universe premieres tonight at 9/8C on Syfy with a two-hour episode.

Don't bother, really. The Scy-Fy network is not kind to fans, as the two previous incarnations of Stargate were canceled not due to low ratings (they were some of the highest of the network) but simply because Scy-Fy didn't want to do the show anymore. They do that alot. They have a habit of canceling projects willy nilly. And this particular show looks and feels like a watered down verison of what made SG and SGA great. I say forget about it, and watch the originals on DVD. That's what I'm doing. (Oh, and Voyager and Battlestar came after, and if that is truly where the franchise is going, run far far away from this trainwreck.)
Yes, S, we remember how ruthless the SyFy (wow, those 2 "Y"'s are just weird and wrong) channel can be. We remember the great shows they cancelled: "Welcome to Paradox", "Sliders", "Invisible Man", "FarScape", "First Wave", and many more. But they did give us "BSG".
did not like BSG and do not like SGU. sgu should have been a spin off of BSG, because its nothing like any of the SG's. there was another show where this little boy found an egg of sea creature that was thought to be extinct. i can't remember the name of it, but it really kept me wanting more and they pulled the plug on that. i hope they pull this one mid season, its boring.
this show blows...im a hugh stargate fan and really looked forward 2 sgu...soooo disappointed! it is boring with a capital B. most characters are either clueless idiots or just plain annoying. i like a well thought out plot, not an hour of watching 2 guys try 2 get ice which even if they got the second sled back 2 the ship, wouldnt have made much water anyway. oh and like scott falling in a hole was so dramatic...come on, u knew somthin was goin 2 happen on the planet...what a great highlight 2 the episode. BORING! what the hell...the writers couldnt have come up with a better storyline. i expected more. yea ill keep watching, hoping it gets better.
if every editor wrote like you believe me the world would be a better place! this was an excellent read expecting more!

I really enjoyed SGU and was pretty frustrated that it was cancelled without giving the characters the proper send-off (i.e. and ending) they deserved. Well it seems SyFy has listened to the fans, despite the ratings and put together a conclusion. And I for one am psyched they’re doing this. I wasn’t thrilled with the timing though, being that I travel a lot and immediately recognized the airing dates for when I would be out of town. But it gave me the extra motivation to finally set up the TV everywhere service though DISH Network. I’ve been a subscriber to DISH for years and have recently become employed by them as well but was still surprised when I realized how easy TV everywhere was to get set-up. Basically all I had to do was download an app and hook up a Sling adapter to my 722 receiver and viola, I can now watch all my programming, including live shows, DVR events etc. anywhere I can get a decent WiFi signal. It works on a ton of different mobile devices, including laptops, Smartphones and iPads and it will allow me to not only keep up with Stargate Universe while I’m on the road but also all my favorites. I’m really excited about it and have been recommending it to everyone I meet that also travels a lot.
Appreciation for this infomraiton is over 9000-thank you!
