The lizard people are here! And it's... kind of exciting, I guess! Truth be told, it took me days to get through the pilot because I kept getting bored, but by the end I suppose I was glad I soldiered through it. I'm certainly glad Elizabeth Mitchell and Scott Wolf have jobs, so that's something. In any case, if you've seen the original and are looking for a respectful adaptation, this is actually a pretty good one. They took some liberties, but I think a couple of them were smart.
The renegade reporter and Holocaust-referencing grandparent characters are absent from this version -- and I don't miss them -- and Elizabeth Mitchell is an FBI counter-terrorism agent who is also a parent to a V enthusiast. In the original I think that character was male, and in the military, but I can't quite remember. The point is, counter-terrorism lends itself to some cool detective work and bad-assery, and there is a bit of that in the pilot. Some other characters have been eliminated or emulated, but I now realize I have no idea why I'm doing such an in-depth comparison between the two when a) not that many people even remember the original that well, and b) no one's going to watch this extremely genre series on the network of Dancing with the Stars and The Bachelor, so this is going to be canceled right quick. So watch tonight, if you have the time, but I wouldn't get too attached.
If you're sick of having your heart broken by network television, our Week in Preview has other, less-likely-to-be-canceled show suggestions for tonight.

I have very fond, albeit fuzzy, memories of the original V. In elementary school, a few other kids had seen it and we attempted to re-enact it during recess. Ahhhh, memories.
YOU may not know many people who remember the original, but there's a bunch of us who do. My FB page lit up on Sunday when they did a marathon on "Syfy."
I too have very fond and fuzzy memories of watching the original V when I was in elementary school. I want to re-watch them!
Elizabeth Mitchell, Alan Tudyk, Morena Baccarin, and aliens?; count me in for the long haul. And by long haul I mean until it gets cancelled around XMas.
But it's not on Fox. So it has a shot...
And my DVR is full now of "V" related programming.
I guess the Republicans are right -- the people behind universal healthcare are actually alien lizards out to destroy the human race. Oh please!
