The Mad Men season finale is already upon us tonight (seriously, is it just me or did this season fly by at supersonic speed?), and I don't know anything about it. Matthew Weiner's notorious paranoia about secrets getting out has been in full effect for tonight's episode -- there's no trailer, no detailed synopsis, no revealing promotional images of any kind, nothing official of any sort. All I know is the episode is called "Shut the Door" and that "Don has an important meeting with Connie. Betty receives some advice. Pete talks to his clients." Which isn't much, so here we are left to speculate. Will Betty really leave Don? (I think she will.) Will Pete leave Sterling Cooper? (I think he will.) Will Roger take up with Joan again? (Oh yes, most definitely. I don't care if it is "different with this girl.") Will Peggy's Duck hickey ever heal? (Only time will tell!)
This has been a tremendous and very satisfying season overall, and the gradual 180-degree change in the power dynamic between Betty and Don in their relationship alone is a huge writing achievement, but... I miss Sal and Joan so much already -- next season, am I to miss Pete all year, as well? And what if Peggy tries to leave to go work for Duck, too? That is hurtful, show. Put the band back together already.
But no matter what happens, I think we all know tonight's events are going to melt our faces off. I love me some Bachelor and Rock of Love, but this show never ceases to remind me how truly brilliant television is just the single greatest thing in the entire world.

Betty will meet Mr. Francis at a hotel -- a Hilton -- and Connie will them. He'll yank his account from the agency because they don't have family values. And he'll tell Don what he saw. Betty won't leave Don; he'll throw her out -- and keep the kids. Teacher will move in to play housewife. But then Don will cheat on her with his old flame Rachel -- who has divorced her husband, and is willing to get involved with Don now that he's single.
How does Connie dump Don? He goes to the office before Don arrives and, once again, sits in is chair. When Don finally gets there, Connie tell him to shut the door, take a seat.
Roger will see Don's dumping of Betty as brave, and toss out his drunkard of a wife too -- and propose to Joan. Joan won't cheat on her husband, but she will dump him. Then she'll ease back into things with Roger.
The au pair turns up pregnant (Pete is having kids all over town) and Pete has to tell Trudy. She tosses him out.
Do any relationships survive? Nah. Even Peggy dumps Duck when she figures out that sex is not more important than the president getting shot.
Because he can't get work, Sal enlists in the Army.
Oh, and Betty's so ticked off at Don she tells the military what he did in switching IDs and he's arrested. But the ex in California testifies, clears him by claiming he's the real Don Draper. And who's to say otherwise? Don has dumped the stuff that was in his drawer and Betty just sounds like a crazy woman making wild claims. The old guy at the agency won't speak up because he needs Don, and Pete won't because when he told Peggy he intended to, she tells him she told Don that he'd fathered her baby. Pete, who's trying to smooth things over with Trudy, can't afford another baby popping up.
All that happens before the first commercial. Beyond that, I'm as in the dark as the rest of you.
I put those typos in my post on purpose (sure I did) just so you'd know Matt Weiner didn't write it.
Just watched it - brilliantly done. And I loved Rinky Dink's comments. You should definitely get a job with "creative."
You mentioned Bachelor and Rock of Love in your post about Mad Men? Wow.
