Fans of Merlin on NBC, we have good news! The show is back for a second season... just not on NBC. No, NBC has wisely shunted Merlin off to its sister network, Syfy, where it will better fit in with their Destination: Truth marathons and their Saturday night monster movies, like Beyond Sherwood Forest and Beauty and the Beasts. Considering how those movies play fast and loose with mythology, Teen Merlin and His Cleverly Hidden Magic Powers should fit right in.
The series returns with its full cast, mostly nobody you've heard of outside of, well, Merlin, with the exception of Anthony Head, who will always be Giles from Buffy to us. He plays Uther, the king of Camelot, and he's kind of a jerk, even though Merlin keeps saving his life and his son Arthur wants nothing more than to live up to his expectations. While Merlin isn't allowed to practice wizardry in the magic-free kingdom, every episode features some kind of sorcery, plus there are plenty of CGI creatures about and occasionally Merlin and Arthur tolerate each other enough to act like very young buddy cops. There are guest stars, too, if you like obscure British actors. Mackenzie Crook, who appears in tonight's episode, played Gareth (the proto-Dwight) on the U.K. version ofThe Office and was the pirate with the wooden eye in Pirates of the Caribbean. If that doesn't sell you on the series, I'm really not sure what will.
Merlin airs tonight at 10/9 C on Syfy. Catch up on Season 1 episodes here, then read about more of our favorite cancelled medieval dramas!

This was a surprisingly decent summer show last year, so I am glad that I get to see a little more of it.
I hope the SciFi network faithful don't dismiss it as a kiddie show..
Darn. Despite the horrific graphics, storylines, and sometimes acting my family and I really came to love watching this show last summer. Now as a ten o'clock show on a channel we don't get we'll sadly never be able to find out what happened to the wonderful Merlin and his band of friends.
