I did not think I was going to like Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution, but as I've explained before, this show is great (flash mobs aside). Even though it feels like Jamie is just starting to make progress in Huntington, tonight is the last we'll see of his revolution. Celebrate with homemade vegetable stir-fry!
Actually, I just read a description of tonight's episode that I want to share: "Jamie's accomplishments in Huntington begin to unravel when he leaves the city; with the media hounding him, Jamie returns to Huntington for his most-powerful demonstration yet; Rascal Flatts perform." Sad! And not only because I hate Rascal Flatts! As inspiring as this show is, it's depressing to realize that a healthy lifestyle seems damn near impossible to some people. It makes me wonder what really happens when the cameras are off.
Take, for example, morbidly obese teenager Brittany, whose doctor told her she possibly only had seven years to live because of her weight. She, herself, admitted that impending death wasn't enough to make her change her dietary habits. And until the mother of that unhealthy family learned that her son was on the fast track to diabetes, she wasn't ready to change, either. What, if anything, will be enough to inspire people to alter their lifestyles for good? I know it sounds silly, but have you seen that recent picture of Jared from Subway? This guy was a paid spokesperson for being fit, and even he fell off the wagon.
Watching Food Revolution has been such a heartbreaking eye-opener to this -- or should I say our? -- culture. Jamie is obviously trying is best to create change in Huntington, and thanks to his show, I understand how ambitious of a goal the chef has set for himself. Personally, I would have given up after seeing those kids eat homemade chicken-carcass nuggets.
Catch the season finale of Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution tonight at 9 PM on ABC.
