This CW series is ending its first season, and I'm really relieved. Let's be clear, I absolutely, 100% fully adored the pilot. I thought it was very tightly written and full of creative new ideas, and I believed wholeheartedly that I had found my new Everwood. Just a few short weeks later, and I'm over it. Actually, I was pretty much done with the show after the second and third episodes failed to capture the heart that the premiere had, but I kept sticking with it, thinking it was going to get better.
Now, as the 13th episode approaches, I'm sure that it isn't my newest obsession -- in fact, it's the show that sits in my DVR for days until I have time to watch it. I just don't really like any of the characters... aside from occasionally Baze, but even he isn't fabulous all the time. Cate is too whiny and annoying, Ryan is just way too good and should cut his losses, Lux is so grating that I just want to scream at her the entire time she's on TV and even Baze has his idiotic moments. It's hard to watch a show where you really can't root for anyone, since you are hoping that they all fail miserably. When the most interesting person on the show is named Bug? You've got problems.
The characters aren't the only issue though -- the fact that the show keeps trying to find ways to keep Cate and Baze apart (though I'm not convinced they should actually be together --- I know they have their shippers) is just irksome. The entire radio show subplot makes increasingly less sense, not only because the entire station seems to revolve around who Cate is having sex with, but also because of neglected little details. Wouldn't the radio station have been up and running during the power outage? Isn't that how people get information? Wasn't there a generator? Instead, Ryan just sat around pretend-interviewing Lux in the dark? That seems more than a little off.
Anyway, I hope if this show does get a second season that the powers that be take a good long look at the pilot and try to figure out how to recapture that magic.
The finale airs at 8 PM (7 Central) tonight on the CW. I'll be watching... reluctantly.

I completely agree! I loved the pilot and quit watching around episode 5. That has to be a record for me.
I was hoping for an old school WB show. In the pilot, I thought Lux was a cutie and the adults were interesting. Now, not so much. Which is a shame because I loved Shiri Appleby in Roswell and Kerr Smith in Dawson's Creek. Now I'm wondering if those were just flukes or if the show is that poorly written/directed.
Thank God someone else agrees with me. I only started watching this show because of Shiri Appleby; I loved her on Roswell. Instead, I've become less and less interested in the show each episode. The characters just bitch at each other for entire episodes. "Bride Unbridled" made me want to punch a hole through my laptop screen. I can't stand any of the mains except Ryan, who's the only one who has a shot at being called mature. I just keep watching the show to see if the story is as predictable as I think it's going to end up being.
The only one I find remotely appealing is Erin Karpluk as Alice. I love her on Being Erica and she's funny here. I wish they could make her into the same sort of character Roz was on Frasier-- not as important as the main four (Lux, Baze, Cate, Ryan on here; Frasier, Niles, Daphne, Martin on Frasier) but still a strong character.
If I'm going to keep watching for a second season, things seriously need to change. Thanks for pointing that out.
Sorry, I don't agree with what this reviewer wrote at all. Not all of the characters were likable at first, but as the season progressed I've begun to love them all. Cate being my favorite. It's a wonderful show that I love, and can't miss an episode. I won't be reading any more of your reviews.
I love this show it is so good and i love Jones and i really want Lux to be with him cause he is cute and every show i think they fall in love more and more i want wait till next season though...
I liked this show very much and after seeing the finale I'm almost positive there's not going to be another season. I feel that this show was not only a coming of age for Lux, but her bio parents as well. They were kinda all growing and learning together. Sometimes there was more than enough drama, but as a mother myself of a child who came back from an adopted home this show barely tapped into the drama. I always felt by the end of the show a lesson had been learned and eyes were opened, which in turn closed the show on a happy note. If you only knew my life you would know that this show hit on a lot of real life issues. Sorry othersmissed the point of the show.
There are definitely a number of details like that to take into consideration. That could be a nice level to convey up. I offer the ideas above as general inspiration but clearly there are questions like the one you carry up where crucial thing will be working in sincere good faith. I don?t know if finest practices have emerged around things like that, but I am sure that your job is clearly recognized as a fair game. Each boys and girls really feel the influence of only a second’s pleasure, for the remainder of their lives.
