It's hard to hate on them for raising money for those in need of help, but really, these telethons are usually tedious. Why not just run a donate button each week during elimination night? Or run a separate show after the finale that doesn't mess with the format of the show? Or give the bazillions of voters an option to donate via the phone after they've called-in for their favorites? That would probably raise more quick cash, and save me two hours of watching forced banter and celebrities I don't care about with a few songs thrown in.

Tonight features performances by Annie Lennox, Jeff Beck, Carrie Underwood, the Black Eyed Peas and Alicia Keys (who is also serving as mentor of the week) and supposedly one contestant goes home. I seriously hope that they don't do that "nice" thing where they make this a freebie week because everyone is being charitable and just roll the votes on over until next week for a double ouster. Non-elimination weeks make me really cranky.

The extravaganza kicks off at 8 PM on Fox, if you can handle it.
