I know that I shouldn't be so excited for a new season of The Challenge (now missing the Real World/Road Rules in the title), especially since I stopped watching Real World years ago, but I can't help myself. It's like somehow this is what all-star editions of Survivor should be like, but aren't. I wrote a whole rant about the fact that other challenge-based reality shows should take a lesson from this stupid little MTV show. Anyway, there's something about this nutty series that fills a void in my life and maybe that's why I can't stop watching. Also, I like watching grown men just pound the hell out of each other for thirty five dollars and a cheap iPod knock-off.
This season is all about bringing in some new blood/talent, and considering that one of my personal favorite Challenge regulars, Evan, was from the last Fresh Meat, I'm hopeful that this new batch will produce some stellar personalities who I will love to hate for years to come. Instead of having the newbies face off against the seasoned vets, they've split teams with rivals Wes and Kenny having a mishmosh of new and old competitors on their team. I am firmly on Team Wes here. Expect the fireworks to start about two minutes into the premiere, while it will probably take another fifteen before someone starts crying because they are afraid of heights. But will anyone punch a cactus? That's the real question.
Tune in tonight at 10 PM on MTV. No previous knowledge of this show is at all necessary to jump in. In fact, it might be better that way.

Professional BMX rider and longtime Challenge host TJ Lavin welcomes the Fresh Meat to the combines, a series of physical fitness tests the alumni will use as the basis for selecting their partners.
