If you haven't been watching Party Down, then... well, you probably don't have Starz. (It's a pay channel.) But if you do get Starz, you need to watch Party Down. It's an incredibly funny show about cater-waiters in Los Angeles, and it stars Parks & Rec's Adam Scott, The State's Ken Marino, Veronica Mars's Ryan Hansen and True Blood's Lizzy Caplan as the wait staff. Most of them are aspiring actors, but they also have a clueless stage mom (Megan Mullally) on staff, and each episode follows them to a different event, where they encounter ridiculous characters from L.A.'s power elite, as well as its dregs. This week, it's the dregs, but they're very funny dregs.
The party tonight is going down at the opening night of a community theater production of a play called Not on Your Wife. The State's Kerri Kenney and Human Giant's Rob Huebel play community actors, and Jim Piddock (Best in Show) plays the theater's president, who is also the mentor of Ryan Hansen's character, Kyle. To help out the floundering theater, Kyle must romance a wealthy patron at the party, played by Kerri's occasional Reno 911 co-star Rachael Harris. And did we mention that The State's David Wain is directing? This normally funny show might just be extra-funny tonight.
Party Down airs tonight at 10/9C on Starz. And check out our guides to new and returning summer shows for more suggestions!

I stopped watching Party Down after a few episodes. I love anything to do with Veronica Mars, and Jane Lynch was fabulous as always, but none of this compensated for having to watch Lizzy Caplan and Adam Scott be all obnoxious and into each other.
I've seen every episode and the cast and stories are pretty consistently awesome. Last week's "Steve Guttenberg's Birthday Party" was one of the best episodes of a comedy this season. I don't have Starz, but the Starz website usually streams four episodes without needing to subscribe. And for those of us with NetFlix, the entire series is available there to watch-instantly (including the newest episode added every Friday night). Are we having fun yet!?
Well your loss then. It's a great show, and pretty freaking hilarious. Perhaps the problem was you: expecting it to have anything to do with Veronica Mars, other than being by the same people.
I agree, atlantic. Last week's (and the Preschool auction - JK Simmons does something to me) was amazing. Hopefully, the season stays consistent and it doesn't get canceled.
Extrapolate much? Enjoying the work of actors from VM isn't the same as me expecting the show to be anything like Veronica Mars. I simply didn't like a couple of the actors, who had too much screen time devoted to them for me to find it truly enjoyable. Just because someone doesn't like a show that YOU like, it doesn't mean that there's a "problem" with them. After all, it's not like being a fan of this show defines you as a person, so no need to get defensive just because someone dares to criticise it.
