Sunday, May 2, 2010: Jerseylicious

Full disclosure: I've only seen one full episode of this show, but I have watched every clip Hulu has to offer. That being said, I'm going to go ahead and concede that I love Jerseylicious. And I use the word "love" gently, of course, because I am in no way saying that this is great television. Instead, if you keep your standards real low, Jerseylicious is what I choose to think of as high-quality "home sick programming," which, like so many other trashy series, are a godsend when you're parked on the couch all day and don't have the energy to move or think.

Anyway, I initially decided that I liked Tracy & Gigi and "hated" Olivia, as well as every one of their stupid boyfriends. However, after reading our forums, I feel torn. I also have no idea who the Glam Fairy is, but as so many of you have recommended, I checked out the FAQs on her website, and they are so over-the-top that I'm looking forward to meeting this chick on the show.

Perhaps I'm so easily amused by the semi-staged drama of Gatsby Salon because my hometown literally neighbors Green Brook and I went to high school with its teenagers (908 represent!). As a local of this part of New Jersey, I can vouch for the fact that this is how dramatic some people actually are in this area, even when they have lived their lives out of the spotlight of a television crew. Not all of us have teased hair and love clubbing, but there are enough girls my age who do to warrant some recognition that this subculture does, in fact, exist.

And like it or not, I think that the Jerseylicious world is little bit in all of us natives -- I mean, as much as I tell myself that my quiet little Jewish family was pretty normal, we did have a tanning booth in our basement, so I'm going to resist throwing stones.

Watch Jerseylicious tonight at 10, but for now, mosey on over to our list of Shows That Should Be Jersey-fied. And if you're from NJ, look on the bright side -- At least no one asks us which exit we're from anymore!
