Thursday, October 21, 2010: Project Runway

Each season, I enjoy watching Project Runway from episode one, but I need about half a season under my belt -- it's a blue belt, and it's from the Piperlime.com accessories wall -- before I really start to care about the people more than the clothes. And by the time the season finale rolls around, I'm always genuinely torn about who I want to win, thanks to the dueling qualities of talent and likability. Tonight, we reach Episode 13 -- Part One of the finale -- and it's a nail-biter. Is this what Survivor fans feel like?

Tonight, we're going to be catching up with the four semi-finalists in their homes, which is always eye-opening in several ways; you see where they come from and how they work, but you also get to see what they're like in real life for perhaps the first time. Tonight we'll see them show their collections, or parts of them, and one of the four will be gone. Given that Gretchen got burnt out on the last challenge, it doesn't look good for her, but now that she's become a more sympathetic character I hope she rallies. Michael C. executes clean, simple designs that the judges love, despite ridicule from the other designers, but this may be where his limited range becomes apparent. And Mondo and Andy both make brilliant clothing, but I'd rather see Mondo make the cut (and possibly take the whole shebang) for personality and asymmetrical haircut reasons.

Project Runway airs tonight at 9/8C on Lifetime, opposite new eps of Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, CSI, The Mentalist, The Office, Outsourced, The Apprentice, Nikita, It's Always Sunny, Real Housewives of DC, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and game 5 of the NLCS. Oy.
