On Smallville, Kryptonite is always making people act funny, magic spells are always shaking up the status quo and time travel is always showing us horrible futures. But this may be the first time the show has shown us an honest-to-God alternate reality. (Forgive me if I've forgotten a prior instance. This show's been on for so, so, so long.) It happens in comics all the time -- "What If...?" and "Elseworlds" stories used to be a dime a dozen, and there are currently 52 different versions of Earth happening in the DC universe all at once. But tonight, Clark Kent uses a Kryptonian device to travel to a world where his last name... is Luthor!
That's right, it's a world where baby Clark was found by the still-living Lionel Luthor, and raised to be a murdering A-hole who sleeps with however many women will fit into his bed in the Luthor Mansion. Lois and Ollie are engaged, and hate Clark, and since we don't see Chloe in the preview, it may be because Anti-Clark killed her. We do see Tess, who kisses him, although who knows what that's about. The twist is that Anti-Clark took Posi-Clark's place in the real world, so if Posi-Clark returns to his world to find it anything less than severely messed up by an amoral Superman, with friends dead and a city on fire, I will be severely disappointed.
Smallville airs tonight at 8/7C on The CW, opposite new episodes of Supernanny, Medium and Symbionic Titan. I can't wait for the alternate reality episode of Supernanny, where she gives all of the children lots of candy.
