The Ricky Gervais Show returns tonight on HBO for a second season with Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant (co-creators of The Office and Extras) continuing to encourage the insane ramblings of friend Karl Pilkington. For those who have yet to catch an episode from Season 1, the show takes the record-breaking podcasts that originally aired about five years ago and sets them to animation, which allows us to see visuals of the bizarre things Karl comes up with in his head. So watch at your own discretion/amusement.
Tonight's episode reflects on Karl's real-life meeting with a movie studio in which he pitches "the worst film idea I've ever heard," according to Gervais. Karl's movie, which is a thriller, stars Rebecca De Mornay (the chick from Risky Business) and internationally renowned British actor Clive Warren (who we assume he meant as Clive Owen, though upon Googling, happens to be a British radio D.J., but not even at the same station Karl used to work for). We'll get to see this terrible film concept played out in animation form, as well as excerpts from Karl's diary, including a visit to his girlfriend's parents, a camping story, and why he wouldn't want to ever travel to Australia. It's a good show to check out if you're one of those people who wish all books had pictures in it, or that radio shows had images. Though you'll probably find out why that might be just by watching Karl's odd imagination unravel through cartoons.
The witty Brits get animated at 9 PM on HBO.
