Monday February 28, 2011: Bethenny Ever After

Bethenny's back, and this time, she has wisely dropped the stupid question mark that drove everybody crazy on Bethenny Getting Married? last season. So the show's called Bethenny Ever After now, and it's all about her life with husband Jason and baby daughter Bryn. It's also about her shilling her products, but, you know, once a Housewife, always a Housewife.

Sunday February 27, 2011: The 83rd Annual Academy Awards

And so it is, we have reached the end of 2011's awards season. We can finally put the past year behind us knowing smugly that whatever movie wins best picture will be at the top of our Netflix queue by the end of the night, and we can stop pretending we are into movies about British royalty in order to mask our real excitement over next summer's dumbest action movies. Although, we have to hand it to the Academy this year, most of the nominees for best picture did actually attract decent crowds beyond the art house.

Friday, February 25, 2011: Portlandia

To think, less than six weeks ago we had no idea that there was a place for young people to retire to. Nor did we even know just how far is far enough in making sure that our food is local and sustainable. Before Portlandia premiered (on TV, that is -- as we know, all prior online iterations don't count until they're on TV), most of us didn't even have any way of knowing that SNL cast member Fred Armisen is funny.

Thursday, February 24, 2011: Private Practice

It's Paris Geller night on Private Practice! The Shonda-verse is pulling an Amanda Foreman and bringing Liza Weil in for a guest spot as a multiple personalities sufferer for Sheldon to treat tonight, even though she played a cancer patient -- and completely different character, as far as I can tell, unless "cancer patient" is one of her multiple personalities -- on Grey's Anatomy a couple years ago. It's weird, but it's not unprecedented, and besides, who doesn't love having more Paris Geller? We all love more Paris Geller. Welcome to Private Practice, Liza Weil!

Wednesday, February 23, 2011: America's Next Top Model

It's a new season, and there are big twists promised. Of course, this is Tyra, and so they don't actually deliver. Instead of a round of eliminations where we meet like 50 girls we'll instantly forget, we see the girls at a party with 50 girls and then she tells the girls that are actually in the finals that they are going home. It's supposed to teach them about rejection or something along those lines.

Tuesday, February 22, 2011: The Real Housewives of Miami

The Real Housewives of Miami will redefine catty as we know it for the Housewives franchise. Set in the Miami heat, I think we can safely say clothing might be optional for these women. I cannot get over how glama-zon-tastic these women look, though! How much more housewife trashy can they get?

From the promos alone, I am already attached to housewives Adriana and Lea. They are bitchy. They have no sense of censorship. They probably have endorsed Botox a good many times. You have to hand it to them. Adriana has the balls to strut down a fashion show's runway (after the show's over). Lea will say to housewife Marysol's face, upon the announcement of Marysol's engagement, "I did not know he [Marysol's fiancé] needed a green card!" These women have no shame and then the sheer fact that a couple of the Miami housewives argue over whose mom is the bigger bitch? Bring it. I am ready.

Sunday, February 20, 2011: The Amazing Race

Eleven teams return to The Amazing Race tonight, and according to this season's promos, they all have "Unfinished! Business!" Which is true for some of them, like Amanda and Kris, who got screwed on a Blind U-Turn by Margie and Luke, or Kisha and Jen, who got screwed by Jen's bladder, but some of them just didn't win their seasons because... they got lost? Of their own doing? Eh, a gimmick's a gimmick, and all-star seasons of any show are just too exciting to nitpick on the first episode. I'll let the stupid title go.

Friday, February 18, 2011: Blue Bloods

This show was on Fridays, then got bumped to Wednesdays for a bit, and now it's back on Fridays again, but it's worth the DVR hassle to keep up with it. It's not quite the edgy cop show that Southland is, but it delivers some solid drama on a weekly basis, not only on the police side, but also with the complex family dynamics. You know, like if instead of having parties and drinking all the time, the Walkers from Brothers & Sisters decided to make an effort and do something productive, like take down criminals and corruption.

Thursday, February 17, 2011: Community

By now, I hope we don't have to remind you to watch Community, but since tonight is a very special episode, we thought we'd best make doubly sure you tuned in. It seems that Pierce Hawthorne took some mysterious pills, and may be dying. But that's not why it's so special -- not only are we pretty sure Pierce will be okay, we actually don't care if he dies, not after his villainy in the Dungeons & Dragons episode. No, what makes it so special is the presence of special guest Levar Burton.

Wednesday, February 16, 2010: Survivor: Redemption Island

There's a new season of Survivor kicking off tonight, and they've found a way to bring Li'l Russell and Boston Rob back. That show sure knows how to milk its "stars," such as they are. The bad boys will seemingly be mentoring the folks that get kicked off and then they will somehow be competing Real World/Road Rules Challenge-style to win a spot back in the game. It all sounds very complicated and confusing.
