Monday, July 4, 2011: Fourth of July Fireworks Round-Up

Fireworks are a Fourth of July tradition, but in case your community is foregoing bottle rockets and Catherine wheels for budgetary and/or safety reasons, it's good to know that TV has you covered.

PBS kicks the night off with their annual Capitol Fourth show, broadcast live from the U.S. Capitol's West Lawn in Washington D.C. Jimmy Smits once again hosts the 90-minute show, which will feature performances by Steve Martin, Josh Groban, Matthew Morrison (holla, Mr. Schue!) and Jordin Sparks. The actual fireworks portion of the program will be accompanied by music from the National Symphony Orchestra. Meanwhile over on New York's West Side, NBC will carry the Macy's 4th of July Fireworks show, now in its 35th year. Beyonce and Brad Paisley are two of the singers stopping by to serenade the crowds. Last, but not least, CBS will carry the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular, hosted by Michael Chiklis with musical assists by Lionel Richie, Norm Lewis and, of course, the Boston Pops. Wow, three fireworks shows and not one guest appearance from Katy Perry? She must be as sick of that song as the rest of us.

A Capitol Fourth 2011 airs at 8pm on PBS, Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular begins at 9pm on NBC and the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular commences at 10pm on CBS.

Lionel Richie actually isn't going to be with the Boston Pops, so Martina McBride is going to take his place.

Only CBS could screw up the Boston Pops 4th of July show. They cut up the 1812 overture at the start and then hardly any Pops music was played. Hopefully it will go back to PBS who did a good job.

Please do not allow CBS to do this again - their choice of music was horrible and not near enough Pops music.

The Anthem was sung by Staff Sergeant Tracy Labrecque. The arrangement was written by Master Sergeant Vince Norman.

Who was singing on the fantastic recording of The National Anthem during te fireworks? It was, without a doubt, the best version that I have ever heard.
