We've all seen arrogant genius doctor shows (cough House cough), but what about an arrogant genius doctor show with a supernatural twist?
A Gifted Man has all the elements of the typical doctor show: Surgeon Michael Holt (Patrick Wilson) is incredibly talented, but also incredibly self-absorbed. He's also got a cushy lifestyle and wealthy patients, which naturally makes him an unhappy snob (guess you can't have it all). Enter the ghost of his ex-wife, Anna (Jennifer Ehle), who visits him after she was killed in a car accident. Anna asks Michael to run the free clinic she directed, and because you should always listen to a ghost (no one wants to be haunted -- especially by an ex), Michael does it, forcing him to take care of less fortunate patients, too. His sister, Christina (Julie Benz), is actually happy Anna is a ghost, because Michael isn't such a jerk when she's around.
In the third episode, Michael notices lesions on the brain of a new patient, but can't figure out what they are (it is a doctor show, remember?!) and interviews new doctors to run the free clinic, since he's still got to deal with the rich people and a ghost. It's a good thing he's so gifted.
A Gifted Man airs tonight at 8 PM on CBS.
