Who says MTV is the only place to find shallow dating shows?

Fox has combined the most superficial elements of such past MTV classics as Next and Date My Mom with the spinning chair/blind audition format of NBC's The Voice to form the oh-so-creatively titled The Choice. Hosted by Cat Deeley of So You Think You Can Dance fame, each week will feature four celebrities who choose whether they want to date someone based only on their voice and what they say. The lucky contestants on tonight's series premiere will try to appeal to Jersey Shore's DJ Pauly D, singer Romeo, former Olympian and NFL player Jeremy Bloom and soap star Jason Cook. It's never a good sign that the most famous person they could get for the premiere is Pauly D. By the fourth episode, the contestants might be choosing from the freecreditreport.com guys.

The series premiere of The Choice is on tonight at 9 PM on Fox after the premiere of the non-"celebrity" dating show Take Me Out at 8 PM.
