Tuesday, July 30, 2013: Drunk History

How come whenever anyone I know gets wasted, they don't sit around explaining significant historical moments in a charmingly inebriated manner, complete with comedians in funny costumes reenacting said moments for my viewing pleasure? What alcohol can I drink next time to make sure this happens? I would like to improve my knowledge of American history, and also to find better drinking buddies.

Drunk History began as a series of Funny or Die videos of the same name. The show has now jumped to TV, but it has retained the same level of commitment to illustrating the best aspects of alcoholism that the original format provided. Each half-hour segment covers two important episodes in a specific city's past, from the American Revolution up through the 21st century. A drunk actor or comedian opens the episode and begins explaining the historical event. Other assorted funny people act out the story, lip-syncing the dialogue. I don't know why they don't make this show required viewing in all high school history classes. I have already learned so much, and seen a host almost puke on his cat!

"Boston," the fourth episode of Drunk History, airs at 10 PM on Comedy Central. At 9, CNBC premieres its newest reality show, The Profit, while the Season 2 premiere of Nikki & Sara Live debuts on MTV at 11.
