It's that time of year again -- the time when NBC devotes an entire hour of live television to a gigantic Christmas tree! The 75-year-old, 74-foot tall Norway Spruce from Pennsylvania will get its second life tonight after it was unceremoniously uprooted from nature and plopped above a skating rink, where too many people will congregate in the freezing cold to watch someone flip a giant switch. Ah, the magic of Christmas!
It's a magical event, where people stand around for hours in the cold in order to watch someone flip a switch, but hey, if you're into that, this is on. For me, this is nothing but a sign that there will be tourists and crowds surrounding our offices for the next month. Sad. The magic of Christmas has been taken away by working in Rockefeller Center. Still, the 12-ton tree does look pretty massive this year, even in its current unlit state, so for those who don't see it every day, I can see how it would be exciting.
