I Hope Her Majesty Has Good Insurance

In what has already been a bad week for the automotive stars of the new James Bond movie Quantum of Solace, it has just gotten a little bit worse. According to CNN, an experienced stuntman was seriously injured in a car crash while filming an action sequence in the same area of northern Italy where earlier this week a driver for Aston Martin lost control and dunked his auto into Garda Lake while en route to the 007 set. This time at least, mention of what happened to the driver came in the first sentence of the article. Sadly, he seems to be in much worse shape than the uninjured driver of the Aston Martin.

In what might very well be retribution from the Car Gods for putting Bond in a Ford Mondeo in the beginning of 2006's Casino Royale, the accident occurred when the Alfa Romeo crashed into a wall during a chase sequence involving a truck and Bond's soggy Aston Martin along the Gardesana, a curvy two-lane lakeside road near the town of Limone sul Garda. Town spokesman Marco Giardi commented that "They chose this road because it is full of curves and tunnels. It will give the film a lot of impact." Which it clearly already has, but perhaps not in the way he was hoping.

The die-hard Bond fans upset with the casting of a blond-haired, blue-eyed Bond in Daniel Craig may be upset to learn that Craig was not on set at the time of the accident, while 20-something bloggers who can more than appreciate a blond blue-eyed man in short blue swimming trunks are glad to hear it.
