Dick Cheney. Captain America. No Irony!

Good news, bad news, casting news. Some actors will be working in the near future, and some won't.

- Helping out those who will is Shakespeare, with King Lear coming back to the big screen. For those of you who didn't have to read it in 10th grade, the tragedy tells the story of an aging British monarch who decides to abdicate the throne and divide his kingdom between his three daughters, based on how well they declare their love for him. Anthony Hopkins is set to play Lear, with Keira Knightley and Gwyneth Paltrow as two of his daughters. For those keeping score at home, that puts Paltrow's Characters with British Accents vs. Characters with American Accents at about 3 to 1.

- Oliver Stone's Bush Administration roster is about to be complete. Richard Dreyfuss is in the final stages of negotiations to star as Dick Cheney in Stone's upcoming Bush biopic W. Dreyfuss has previously played the nasty opposition senator to Michael Douglas's Commander-in-Chief in The American President so the role shouldn't be too big a stretch.

- In news about actors who didn't get the part, Dark Horizons has dispelled the Matthew McConaughey as Captain America rumor. The President of Marvel Studios dismissed the McConaughey casting talk, but did confirm that the upcoming The First Avenger: Captain America will be a World War II period piece coming out in May of 2011, and would be a set up for the Avengers movie which will be released six weeks later. No word yet on who actually will be in those flicks.

- Those looking forward to another incarnation of Dirty Harry will also be disappointed. Approached in Cannes yesterday about the rumor of a new Harry, Clint Eastwood remarked "That is not correct...Dirty Harry would not be on the police department at my age, so we'll move on from that." Sorry, Odie.

I don't think anyone's worried that McConaughey and Eastwood won't get work, but I'll be honest. I never thought I'd actually write the words "Dick Cheney" and "Captain America" on the same page. You know, without irony.
