By now you've probably seen or at least heard about the latest trailer for The Dark Knight. It was leaked last week but remained difficult to find online. Not so now that it's been officially posted to watch or download. Most bloggers/fans of the franchise are savoring this deeper look at the new movie, although some think it's too dark or even understated. I'm not sure how you can see a trailer in which the Joker says, "It's simple: Kill the Batman" as understated, but to each his own.
The official version of the trailer is HD, so it takes awhile to download or buffer if you don't have a zippy connection. You can also watch a lower-quality version below via E! News Daily and then linger over these screencaps and MTV's shot-by-shot review.
The trailer makes it clear that the movie isn't going to shy away from showing Heath Ledger in his creepy final full role, which is a good decision. He put so much into the role, and I don't think anyone would want that taken away from him in death. The role looks amazing and it's certain to be one of the highlights of his too-short career. He looks to be the central point of the movie, in many ways.
That said, as this LA Times interview with Aaron Eckhart reminds us, director Christopher Nolan says "the foundation of the film is the tale and transformation of Eckhart's character, Harvey Dent, from a crusading Gotham City prosecutor to Harvey Two-Face, a maniac whose face is ravaged on one side by a horrible injury."
The interview with Eckhart goes on to reveal plot details and spoilers, so spoiler-resistant fans should stay away. That said, it's a newspaper article, so he obviously can't give away anything that you probably don't know or couldn't easily figure out. In other words: I warned you; read at your own risk.
(If you haven't seen last week's promotional posters, take a look. They'll just add to your excitement. Am I the only one wishing it were already July?
